Princes of the Universe - Open

One person who would never wear a backpack would be Alice. Instead she carried her books in a backpack but she carried it by the top handle as the straps would tangle with her wings. Today she was back in a dress; this time in yellow and this dropping to her knees and sleeveless. Her winter jacket was slung over a left arm and she was curious about here too. Perhaps it would be a good spot if she wanted a quiet study place as it never seemed to be locked up when not in use.

The door she had chosen to enter through was about thirty feet from Lynn and she was surprised to find she had company. Still a pleasant surprise as she got a good look at her. Certainly a pretty girl but she did have Adam to think of. He was away from the Island right now and she would be there to meet him when he got back. She could still be friendly though as she closed the distance still giving enough space for comfort.

"Hello there. I'm Alice" she said introducing herself sticking out a free hand. She was good at meeting people even with her bad start in life.

Ulitimately if Alice hadn't partied so hard during the New Years eve bash she might have remembered their conversation that night. They still might but today was the first day back in university of 2023. So a new start to a new year. "Oh Hello Lynn. I'm from Jacksonville, Florida orginally".

That was as accurate as she could be given she'd never seen her records and had very vague memories of a NEW York state shared home and sharper memories of life as a human lab rat between four and six.

Lynn also sounded American but she couldn't place where. So a return question was curiously posed. "So where did you live before coming here?"

Yes, that had been a wild night. And the fun continued afterwards back in her room with the man in her life. The party itself was hazy as she had uncorked chaos by keeping the drinks flowing. Perhaps Clark had suffered with an hangover just like she had.

"I can agree it was an interesting night" Alice chuckled back. While she listened to Lynn her reasons made sense. Going here for university was sensible and an option for a more enlightened human. Then heard her degree was in music; so there must be existing talent if she was talking about performing.

"My degree is in horticulture. At some point in time this cold war is going to end and we'll need people who know how to grow things" she mused. You couldn't always count on ships coming into port and that was understood in quite a few countries. Ashford Island was only the most recent 'nation' to be under that sort of pressure.

"Your town does sound quiet. Did your interest in music start in the boarding school?" she posed sounding curious. It sounded like Lynn had grown up in a normal way unlike herself. She had that exhibit herself but under the CIA. Then left in the care of the US army living as a army brat; just not a free one.

Alice totally understood what Lynn was saying; the army base she lived in was essentially a small town there were a lot who either ignored her or hated her. That was what broke her down over the years. At least it sounded like Lynn got out and ended up here just in time. Alice nodded as she listened then spoke quietly. "I know about the hatred. I had years of that to deal with; but you are safe now. I wasn't free until I got here".

"I'd love a drink" she added when the offer came. It was never easy to talk about about some experiences but on this island it was a common factor that had brought them here. The only haven they might ever have.

You had different options for drinks depending on what you wanted. "I could suggest the canteen if you want to sit down with your drink. Otherwise there's a vending machine not far from here. Next floor up" Alice replied. This was a vast improvement from when she had first walked into the university and she now knew her way around.

"If you can't remember I could show you the way" she added with a smile. Less of the depressing thoughts and more of the happier ones!

Alice figured the canteen would give more options as well as seats so she led the way. With the map of most of the site locked in her head they started by going down levels then west until they got to their destination.

There were a few other people around at this time of the day and they joined the small queue. Alice picked out a cup of coffee and asked Lynn what she wanted/

So it would be two coffee's that Alice paid for. She just needed the caffeine right now as together they'd locate a free table. Had she taken her barrel bag with her she could have stashed her coat in it but she'd be dealing with that all day. So was balancing a tray along with her coat.

She had a question about the course Lynn was taking and softly asked "so how are you finding the music degree so far?" Alice had always been learning and still was as she was doing her degree. She wondered what aspects of music you could have in a degree. It probally wasn't just about making music.
