"So how could music help you explore and improve that?" she added. Everyday was a school day on this island, her own ability quite rare with only a few individuals here able to fly.

"Well, for starters, I want to understand music in all its forms and how I can use it with regards to the power that I possess, though to be specific it manifests through singing," Lynn said, finally getting a moment to revel in explaining her specific oddity. "To be able to create, to destroy, to defend, to attack...all through the music of one's voice. To be able to spit out a sonic boom," faintly pantomiming blowing a smoke ring away from her, "and know what it can do to an opponent. An awesome power but one that, for me, first manifested itself when I was in 15, back in high school."

Lynn was looking right at Alice, though her eyes looked like they seeing well beyond. "I was bullied growing up and being a foster kid who didn't know who her father was...yeah, you can imagine the bullying. Let's just say 'bastard child' was one of the nicer terms used...anyway, I was in the school's music hall practicing when a couple football jocks started harassing me, interrupting every moment they could.

"I kept telling them to stop, over and over," her voice getting lower in tone, "but they wouldn't stop. So, after a long while, I just turned towards them and started singing some song about wolves...they started laughing at me. They stopped laughing when a ravenous pack of wolves charged past me and ripped them to shreds. Just tore them to pieces, blood everywhere.

"Soon after, I transferred to St. Augustine's in St. Louis; everyone tells me it was to get me out of there before OSE got their hands on me...who knows, but it did make me think about the power I possess. The power to create images from the human voice and the power to literally destroy with the same voice...not something a 19yo wants to think about most days," Lynn said, finishing her cup of coffee, her voice back to its' usual Mizzou twang.

So that explained why she'd transferred schools otherwise she would have been caged like Alice was. It also explained why she'd moved aged nineteen. More tears fell as she had no words and tears spoke louder than those. The only thing she could offer after that was a hug as her arms wrapped round the other girl.

"Hey, hey, hey," Lynn whispered, now starting to cry herself, "its' alright, its' alright." As she sat there, more tears came down from her face; she'd only spoken of her own past a couple times and it still hurt her inside whenever she did. "Come on, sit back down, Alice," Lynn whispered, motioning for her to sit back down.

Now she could find words as she looked back at Lynn and her tears. "They deserved that Lynn. I had some of that to deal with too but could only wing whack them when I was your age. I'm 22 now, don't know my proper birthday and grew up without a surname. Things are better now we're here".

"I know, I know," Lynn replied, "that's what the therapists back at St. Auggie's used to say. Now you know why I'm sometimes very introverted, but I'm slowly emerging from it."

"Then we can help each other out" she quietly suggested to her almost sister. She had considered that she might have siblings in the states if she even knew where to start looking. Without a surname to start with she'd no chance of knowing and she doubted her CIA file would tell anything.

"What do you have in mind?" Lynn asked. Along with the guilt over how her powers have manifested themselves, she had also wanted to know who her father was. If Alice could help, it'd take a lot of the guilt away, she mused, a smile slowly drawing across her face.

"Lynn, In my case I'd have to start with the CIA and hope they'd co-operate. You at least have foster parents who can answer some questions. If we can find out who our parents are or were then our wounds might start to heal. I certainly don't want to be crying every few days."

"One thing I'll definitely try to find out is who my birth parents are," Lynn replied, the wheels starting to turn inside her mind. "Every time I look at my birth certificate, it says "not available" on the lines for birth father and birth mother and it still eats me up sometimes..."

"I can also help you learn how to control your power. It's easier if you have help".

"I'd like that, Alice; I'd like that very much."

"There's plenty of outdoor places we could practise at so if you know when you're free we could start" she added. Perhaps a beach where the only people they would could annoy would be OSE ships miles off shore. Bad luck on them if Lynn summoned a sea monster.

"We'll go tomorrow; no better time to start," Lynn replied, adding with humorous deadpan, "maybe we can bring a few more out with us and we'll use them for target practice," smiling a wry, humorous smile.

"Sounds good," Lynn replied, adding, "Here's my cell," quickly scribbling out her cell number and handing it to Alice. "Text me so that I'll have your number, okay?"
