Oddities are individuals born with extraordinary gifts. Because of this they are hated, feared and generally persecuted across the globe. In an attempt to give them a refuge the billionaire Theodore Ashford has created Ashford Isle. Presented as a Sanctuary for the special some believe their to be much darker motives behind his generosity.
Ashford Isle
A state of the art city powered completely by renewable energy, gorgeous modern building erected against the backdrop of a tropical paradise. It has all the luxuries modern technology can afford accompanied by the natural beauty and serenity only nature can provide. This city is open to all Oddities and their families, along with several hundred A.R.I. employees, it boast a modest population of just over 5,000 individuals consisting of a mix between both human and oddity. This wonderful utopia however is shaded in mystery both metaphorically and literally. The United Nations have dispatched several fleets of O.S.E. ships near the island, this gives the coastline a ominous view.

So now sitting down and sipping her own coffee Alice was listening to Lynn explain a music theory degree. Off course there was more to it than met the eye. Alice hadn't a musical bone in her body and if she even tried kareoke she'd probally be booed off the mic.
So she found what Lynn explained totally fascinating as she listened intently. "Your ability?" she posed in a quiet voice. She wasn't expecting to hear that music could be linked to an oddity ability. Lynn being a composer some day might be likely too.
"So how could music help you explore and improve that?" she added. Everyday was a school day on this island, her own ability quite rare with only a few individuals here able to fly.

Everyday was a school day on this island, her own ability quite rare with only a few individuals here able to fly."Well, for starters, I want to understand music in all its forms and how I can use it with regards to the power that I possess, though to be specific it manifests through singing," Lynn said, finally getting a moment to revel in explaining her specific oddity. "To be able to create, to destroy, to defend, to attack...all through the music of one's voice. To be able to spit out a sonic boom," faintly pantomiming blowing a smoke ring away from her, "and know what it can do to an opponent. An awesome power but one that, for me, first manifested itself when I was in 15, back in high school." Lynn was looking right at Alice, though her eyes looked like they seeing well beyond. "I was bullied growing up and being a foster kid who didn't know who her father was...yeah, you can imagine the bullying. Let's just say 'bastard child' was one of the nicer terms used...anyway, I was in the school's music hall practicing when a couple football jocks started harassing me, interrupting every moment they could. "I kept telling them to stop, over and over," her voice getting lower in tone, "but they wouldn't stop. So, after a long while, I just turned towards them and started singing some song about wolves...they started laughing at me. They stopped laughing when a ravenous pack of wolves charged past me and ripped them to shreds. Just tore them to pieces, blood everywhere. "Soon after, I transferred to St. Augustine's in St. Louis; everyone tells me it was to get me out of there before OSE got their hands on me...who knows, but it did make me think about the power I possess. The power to create images from the human voice and the power to literally destroy with the same voice...not something a 19yo wants to think about most days," Lynn said, finishing her cup of coffee, her voice back to its' usual Mizzou twang. To Alice all this sounded very interesting. She kept sipping her coffee as the warming liquid kept her mind of the cold outside. Her own wings started to grow aged four and was able to fly by six. Lynn was certainly different.
Then came something she did understand. She hadn't as much of the bullying to deal with but the name calling hurt more; but it sounded like those guys deserved it. All she'd been able to do was hit people like that with her wings at that age. She also recognised that look as the thousand yard stare and her own look changed to one of sympathy. She truely understood as little tear fell. Alice didn't know if she could take a life yet but she might have to do that at some point.
So that explained why she'd transferred schools otherwise she would have been caged like Alice was. It also explained why she'd moved aged nineteen. More tears fell as she had no words and tears spoke louder than those. The only thing she could offer after that was a hug as her arms wrapped round the other girl.

As she sat there, more tears came down from her face; she'd only spoken of her own past a couple times and it still hurt her inside whenever she did. It felt like forever but in reality this had only been a a very short time when Lynn's voice finally broke through and she sat down again. It seemed they both had deep wounds to deal with in their lives but they were in a place that could help them deal with it; also a place they could fully explore what they could do.
Now she could find words as she looked back at Lynn and her tears. "They deserved that Lynn. I had some of that to deal with too but could only wing whack them when I was your age. I'm 22 now, don't know my proper birthday and grew up without a surname. Things are better now we're here".
Now the tears stopped falling as the facts sunk in again. Alice had to deal with this quite often but she was more caring and loving than she really should have been. She could keep telling herself she wasn't a monster and that was the truth.

Alice knew from this point on there was only one way to help heal those wounds. She could see the therapists on the island but they had done so much already. That was to help Lynn through her troubles as they both knew what it felt like.

Along with the guilt over how her powers have manifested themselves, she had also wanted to know who her father was. So what did she have in mind? Even knowing a little about about their pasts would help but she did have to find the words to make this sound sensible.
"Lynn, In my case I'd have to start with the CIA and hope they'd co-operate. You at least have foster parents who can answer some questions. If we can find out who our parents are or were then our wounds might start to heal. I certainly don't want to be crying every few days.
I can also help you learn how to control your power. It's easier if you have help".
She'd had to figure out flying all by herself but at Lynn could have help and not just from Alice.
At least this was more practical than just crying.

Even in a loving environment people like them still wondered where they came from. That was information other people knew for sure and hung onto like matters of faith. Alice's own memories as a very young girl were broken and hazy and it was only from age four she had complete memories. She had been kind of told she'd been in care before reaching Jacksonville but no details. She'd doubted being fostered at that stage in her life would have changed things as humanity was deep in their hating of oddities by that point.
However she could help Lynn even if she couldn't help herself. "At least you have a birth certificate to start with" she quietly replied. "My birthday was set as new years day for admin purposes. So we partied on my birthday and kept going with my boyfriend after the party was over". A smile crossed her face as she remembered what Adam and herself had gotten up to and she wanted much more of that once he got back to the island.
"There's plenty of outdoor places we could practise at so if you know when you're free we could start" she added. Perhaps a beach where the only people they would could annoy would be OSE ships miles off shore. Bad luck on them if Lynn summoned a sea monster.

Now Alice needed to check her schedule on her own phone. Today was one of her university days and she'd work tomorrow. She could be free in the evening afterwards and fit in her gym session in the morning before work instead. Being able to change her schedule like this was a bonus.
"How does tomorrow evening sound? sometime around 7pm and I can pick you up in my jeep?" she posed. It was one of the perks of her job that she could get along without a driving licence but she'd need to pass the test at some point. It had to be a jeep since a normal car wasn't tall enough for her but with the top up she got her wings in.
"I'll need to give you my mobile number too" she mused doing just that and adding "I think a beach is in order. The sand can show the effects of your power and if a creation gets out to sea it can't really annoy any locals". Having a higher elevation would also help so they could observe what was going on.

Alice looked at the little scrap of paper and added the number to her own phone. Then sent a little text back so Lynn would have their number as well. So all was sorted out for tomorrow.
She still had classes to attend today so would have to leave Lynn for now. "I've got a lecture and classes later on but I will text you later on to arrange a meet up point" she replied with a little smile on her face.
