Knowing he was an oddity and trying to hide it for years in a nation that was hostile to his kind dreams were pretty much on the back burner. He had to get through school, university and then make a career before that was wrecked and then starting over here. So Mallory had posed a hard question for him to answer as he'd always been that driven, organised person. He knew he'd never had had many people looking out for him or to care for. That however had changed on Ashford Isle and even with what was going on there it was a better life he could ever have imagined having. "I wouldn't have minded being a professor eventually back home. It still would have taken a while but it was a long shot for a lab manager. I also had dreams of a family I thought would be impossible there; but these are possible here while this isle remains. David laughed a little as he'd never be able to deny parentage of a little red headed child. If Peyton and himself got even closer it would be possible. Living here had even changed his worldview from the bitter man who could clearly see what was wrong with his home nation to the man who now seen a chance for his kind and some humans to live in peace. Working in ARI had also helped with this as he knew what they discovered would help normal humans too. "As if I could deny a little red headed baby?" he mused. It was a nice thought, thinking about families and such like that but even as she thought about it she sighed. "Sometimes things like that seem so far off," she said honestly. "Yeah we are pretty rare. Peyton is one too" he replied as the puppy started to sleep. The motion of driving and David calming him had done the trick. Things like a family did look far off but in the UK he'd have found that to be impossible. "So lets get this little guy settled and see how he explores. I'll also make up some of the food that Sparky eats for him" David added with a little smile. He liked cooking and what he made for his dog came quite by chance. "Then I'll make dinner for us. She nodded. "Thanks," she said as she spoke again. "That sounds like a great idea and dinner, I am not sure maybe something with chicken and vegetables on the side?" She was trying to eat healthier since she had not always done so but she also knew it would not always be so easy. "Have you tried sweet potatoes before?" David enquired. Knowing Mallory wanted chicken and vegetables did give him ideas as he looked thoughtful. Rice could also work and you could do more with a chicken fillet that just bake it. Mallory then laughed when she claimed she could boil water at least. "Off course you can help out. David now knew what Mallory wanted and he wasn't a fussy eater. So with two dogs also going to be there for dinner he was sure Sparky would keep the puppy in line. It also meant a brief stop off to get extra supplies for dinner before they got to Mallory's apartment. So with a dog and puppy following him it was time to see what they could come up with. David was cutting the sweet potatoes into wedges and keeping two smaller ones for the canine diners. Mallory got cutting the chicken fillets into strips and the mixed vegetables were laid out in a pot prior to starting their cooking off. So when the cooking of their dinner had started David started work on the dog food. He cut the potatoes fine and then halved them again, added a chopped bit of chicken strip, sweetcorn and flour. Then added an egg to bind them and mixed it up. From there they could be formed into balls that could be frozen and then cooked in the microwave as needed. Mallory also got the dessert to work on and off course the dogs knew what was going on. Especially Sparky as they played round Mallory. Mallory Nottingham |

She did love how they always seemed to get along well. "You and I have one of the best types of friendships," she said as she started gathering everything together. It was more than friendship with Mallory and himself. They'd even gotten intimate at times but they could count on each other. Now he'd help her settle in a puppy and train him. As well as cooking dinner. "I like that about us as well. I couldn't even do this in the UK. " David mused before he had to tell the dogs of in a gentle manner. "You'll be able to do the same with the little guy once he gets to know you're the boss. He's following Sparky's lead right now" David replied before he put the dog food balls in a foil container ready for eating or freezing up. So able to concentrate on dinner along with Mallory's help he added cheerfully "now we need to find a box, old towel and a mat for him. Then he'll feel right at home". David didn't know if people knew about all they'd done but nobody had seemed to talk about or perhaps didn't care. The isle felt so much free for starters and they could be themselves. "Yeah I figure at the least we will have to learn one another's habits and go from there." She did not expect it to be easy but she did think that it would be worth it. "As long as I am able to have a few cups of coffee before each morning of getting started with pup training then I think I will also be fine." She did need to curve her coffee habit but one step at a time. "I have old newspapers I can find and I will see if I can find something soft for them to lay on," she said as she ate her food. David chuckled a little and suggested "in that case I'll locate the biggest tea cup in the mall for you. Something that's absurbly sized complete with a saucer that's nearly a plate". "You will be able to do this; even petting him on your lap will convince him you're the alpha but try not to scare him too much. As long as your command voice sounds firm he'll pick up on it and learn in time". They'd started to eat dinner as the dogs played and became friends; however two boys like that could get in trouble. "Newspapers sound good for now but he once he grows a bit he'll need a proper dog bed. Once he settles on your bed you'll never shift him" he also added. Something he had been warned about when Sparky was a puppy and the bad habit had never been formed. He knew Mallory could do this and he'd be there to help all the way. Mallory Nottingham |
