David could understand that way of thinking and it was as good as any other way of looking at life. You also didn't need top heavy dogma to practice it which suited David just fine. He had taken a robot apart while in were form and helped out another as well. He probally didn't help his karma by being mean to a dying STRIFE lunatic but she'd picked the uneven fight with robots. Perhaps things might balance out in the end.

"I believe you're right Mallory. I find that easier to understand than religion in general" he replied with a little smile as the puppy kept up with Mallory. More items got put in the basket as they kept looking. "Sparky already likes you so I can't see a problem. He'll also have a friend to play with in doggie creche; and I'm sure things will work out for you". So Mallory had possibilities going on as well as him. That was good news in dark times.

Then the puppy seemed to get slightly confused and wandered away. David scooped up the little puppy so he or she wouldn't wander off until he got a lead and collar. "You have to follow Mallory you know" he quietly said to currently unnamed puppy.

So they had a little guy. And that meant so many options and that didn't even cover the obvious names a dog might get. "I'm not sure what to call this little guy. And now you can't get away" he said. He was sure Mallory had ideas of her own but he supposed he might as well contribute a starting point of the top of his head. Some were too obvious, others had been used in TV shows but something unique would work.

"I would suggest a consulting a website and see what catches your eye. You'll want something different from the norm, one that can be shortened would be nice too" was all he could think off right now but an idea was trying to form and then hiding when he was trying to vocalise it. "You're an artist; so why not name him after one of them?"

David shook his head as he had no other plans. "Not today anyway but we could get this little guy settled down for starters" he suggested. They would need other things but not right away; a bed could be made out of a box and a old towel for starters. So David got the dry puppy food that was a 5 lb bag; enough to last a long time even with a growing puppies appetite.

Then he spoke to the shopkeeper to find out what Mallory needed to do next before money was handed over. The sale of the puppy would need registered right now but no name had to be picked yet. Then a vet's visit was needed within three weeks otherwise they could go right now and welcome the little dog into Mallory's world.

David carried all the stuff they'd need and put in the vehicle. So it would be them and a little bundle of energy they'd both have to watch carefully. At least David would as Mallory would be driving. So the little guy was looking round while David held him; then little barks followed as he did seem to recognise the man holding him as a kindred spirit. "You need to be a good boy" David told him in a gentle manner. "Now be good for your mommy" he added. Understanding who was boss was the most important thing even before a puppy even started its training.

David understood just how much a puppy changed your life. He'd had a dog while he was a little boy as well and then Sparky much later on. "It will be a big adventure even for this little guy" he replied cheerfully and then as she drove she posed another question.

"It's not just going to be happening here; its a world wide thing and even where I grew up in south west England might well be much warmer in even a generations time. Land masses have changed shape before and will again as seas rise and fall; the last major ice age changed the coastlines worldwide. We think of New Zealand as a island group these days. In the distant past it used to be a major continent" he added thoughtfully. Crazy weather like more storms and even hotter heat was just something to deal with.

Puppies just like a baby really shook up a routine; little dogs didn't understand the need to work round the routine of their masters. So training them was mainly about them understanding who the boss was more than knowing they had to go to the toilet outside and where they were allowed to go in the house.

"I doubt we'll see any ice if that ever happened. I tend to vary the route I take Sparky as we don't have dog parks yet; something else that will have to created in the future but the younger and more energetic they are the longer the walk will have to be. Sparky even needs a long walk now even in his middle age years" David advised. "Something this little fella will have to get used to".

David doubted there'd be an ice age in his lifetime or even in the next few generations. Mallory's mind was put at rest all the same.

The little puppy was feeling more content now and actually calming down a bit; so calming in fact he looked ready for a sleep after his active day. "Look at the little tail wag. He's ready for a nap" David mused quietly as he didn't want to disturb this little guy anymore than he had too. "Thank you too Mallory. It's been a good day out and its too easy to just get stuck in a lab or indoors all the time. Now I just have to hope I don't get puppy fever too now this little guy is here".
