A parents influence just didn't help raise you. It might also direct your future career and since Alice was mainly raised by army nurses she nearly went into that field herself. She actually still could later on in life but right now she was about defending her own kind. Mallory helped bring that memory to mind and while she was trying to build a new life you still had to hang onto the good memories. All those nurses were like cool aunties and they took over after 'mama' left the service to go into civilian nursing. "What he was doing sounds interesting. Would Adam be likely to be hanging onto me?" she posed. She knew her own courage but Adam? She might not even be paired up with him; if they were she'd find out. As they'd talked Alice had picked up flashlights and glow sticks and raised another question. "I know people have phones but what about these little radio packs?" She pointed out pairs of radio's not unlike what she used in the security services. They were smaller, with shorter ranges but did the same job. "I figure when we are throwing pairs out I am mostly going to let everyone find who they want to. Since the main objective is for everyone to have fun I do not want anyone to think that they just have to stay with one person, which is where i figure the love of activities will come from. If someone wants to sit one out then they will be able to do that without worrying about anyone else's feelings being hurt." Mallory had her plan and detailed it as Alice looked over the radio packs and did the math. These versions were cheap enough to not worry too much about them if you lost them or one got trashed. Between them they should have have enough funds but Alice could use her card for this stop if it came to it. "We're bound to lose something. So I probally will end up with Adam. Oh and how many radio packs to do we need?" she mused as she picked up a big packet of white candles. They'd be useful even after the ghost hunt. She also got disposable lighters while she was there just in case people didn't have their own. They'd also have quite a time getting all this back to Mallory's place. She took a second. "I think that four would be good, but hell I can not lug all of this shit back," she siad as she laughed. "I don't usually have a car." She did not have a good reason for it but she preferred to walk everywhere. "Do you know of anyone we can call after we get all of this gathered and paid for. "I don't get my jeep for another two days" Alice replied while sighing. Then she suggested "can't we just call a taxi?" She didn't know anybody else who had a car either so what a fine pair they made. At least soon Alice could drive Mallory around. In the meantime she picked up the four packets of radios and took them to the till along with the other things they'd picked up. Either way they were both loaded like pack mules. She almost cussed herself out under her breath because she took a second and chastized herself at how much she should have thought about it before hand but still she did not know. "Life always throws you into situations that you were in. "I mean it's like a mile and a half so it's not that much of a walk I just don't even know if I could ask that of you." It did not seem fair. Alice looked back at Mallory. Hearing it was only a fairly short walk there was no problem even with being loaded down. She just wouldn't walk away and leave Mallory with the load anyway. "A mile and half is easy Mallory. And I don't mind helping you with this load and we can carry all of this. It's not as if we're playing buckaroo" she cheerfully replied. She smiled again and added "its only slightly further to the hotel from here and I've walked everywhere since I arrived. At least until my application for an apartment goes through". In a few days a situation like this wouldn't be a problem as she'd have work transport effectively a cop car. "Then we can start planning the ghost hunt". Mallory Nottingham |

If she had been able Mallory would have literally kicked her own ass for really not thinking ahead. It was the worse habit of hers by miles and even though she knew it there was still a small part of her that refused to get better at it. She did not know if it was some late sign of child rebellion trying to show itself in her adult years or what but it was not a good thing at all. "Thanks for being so damn understanding Alice," she said. It was not something that she was used to but she still was grateful for it in the end. "Not a problem Mallory. Lets get going" Alice mused. So after paying for the camping store goods it was finally time to trek out of here. Alice organised the bags so a heavy bag was balanced out by one of a similar weight in the other hand. Then added lighter bags to each hand so Mallory wouldn't fall over to the other side. If there had been shopping trolleys in the mall she'd have borrowed one but there hadn't been. Then did the same to what was left but she could carry more. So with Mallory leading the way time wasn't an issue. They just had to get to her place and figure things out while they still had the ideas fresh in their heads. Mallory Nottingham |

Mallory took a second and got everything paid for and then bought a harness so that she could harness as much of it as she could as her and Alice now began to walk. She hated being so flustered but she also knew that sometimes you had to get into situations that you did not see coming. Once they got back to her apartment she wanted nothing more than to kick the door down but she knew better as she just used her digital key to open it. Now able to finally lay her burdens down Alice had a cheery reply to Mallory's question. "Some lemonade would be lovely" she said organising where she left the bags for the ghost hunt and the ones Mallory had that she carried so nobody would trip over them. that was always a good start. Then she sat down on the sofa as they'd gotten back at last. She left her bags beside her feet so she wouldn't leave them behind. The harness had been a good idea and made it easier. Human interaction was still sometimes a lot for her but she was going to do her best to do well around others this time and not let the narrative of how she thought things should go control her. "I am going to try to shoot for around the first weekend in March for the camping adventure but before then I will go out and check on a lot of it. Mallory turned and made a glass of water and pulled four lemons from her hanging basket and gently begin to squeeze the lemons and added a little sugar, stirred, and added a little more. At least Alice hoped she could be free; she could be called back to work even if she wasn't rostered to be in. As to the Ashford's plans she had no idea. That was for higher ups to know until events affected her. "Thank you Mallory. That looks lovely" she added and sipped it. It wasn't fizzy like some lemonade but it still hit the spot. "It is lovely. "The jeep comes as part of my job. I need to be able to get around the island" Alice replied drinking more and added "I can only take four but perhaps we could find an alternative". Alice looked like she was musing over this and came to a quick conclusion. "Can a mini-bus be arranged? That sounds like something as many people can see as possible." They needed more than just one vehicle but where else could they ask to get one that size? As high as one could go she supposed.
