dinner at Mommas - tagged

Knowing Alicia was doing the main cooking Rebecca setting the table for dinner having made sure the cleaning was done first. Sophie would enter once invited and her little girl was so big now. Still smaller than she was but so mature; just as mature as Rebecca had been herself at that age. Differing life circumstances led to the same result.

She knew Russell would have done a good job as much as didn't want her daughter in that line of work but this dinner was just after a crisis. She'd been defending the Ravenmore brothel during that and the invaders mostly died before they got to do real damage. A few retreated into the slums the last she seen. Not that they'd live long there. If they were still holed up there she'd finish the job once they were found.

She heard her daughters reply as she entered and hung up her strappy bag and sun hat. Things had turned out well as she said "how have you been this past week?"

She knew a little about Sophie but seeing someone in the flesh and how they acted she considered that a different ball game all together. She would still hope that this would go okay with everyone however. She listened in and nodded because she found it good that people could be themselves and defend themselves too. It was something she felt the island was relaxed on but still something she hoped every citizen knew. "I'm good hope that dinner tonight goes well."

"Well it's good to have you in our home Sophie. We always want you to feel like you are welcomed and hopefully this will be the start of that." She thought that the home was nice but she knew everyone was into different things. "Also good to know you can not be scared when things get out of hand."

"Dinner will something you'd be used to. We made fish in white sauce, sweet potatoes and vegetables. Alicia did the most part of it. Then for dessert a fruit salad" Rebecca replied as she answered that question.

She also knew that the way she first met Alicia was unusual but not totally weird for here.

When you are mostly fish at the orphanage it wasn’t really a surprise to have it tonight. The way it was served up was unusual for her so Sophie was going to find out how to cook this later on. The story was simple but she wasn’t going to press for details with dinner on offer.

“I’ll need to get the recipe later on” Sophie replied with a smile. “I got a tin of tea for you both. A small shop in the big mall does really good green tea. I didn’t know if mom had a strainer so picked up one as well” she added with a happy smile and went to get strappy purse to get out the parcel. Then gave it to Alicia to welcome her to the family. The Chang family at least given there wasn’t much left of it. Perhaps next time she’d bring something for the table with a warning about the theme of the dish.

"Thanks." She did have a slip of thought wondering why the child had not brought alcohol but then she remembered that this person who seemed advanced for her age was still a child it was good to always treasure those things. She did understand family traditions at least the basic of them as she did not know if her family had any which they needed to change but one thing at a time. "I am also glad that you seem okay with coming I was a little worried but it appears that was for nothing thankfully."
