the work is never done open

Given recent events especially the attack by STRIFE and more recently Dr Mobius' robots blood donation was a lot more important and a service that was getting a lot of use anyway even in any given normal day. Madison was a regular giver for whoever would need it long term and her being a human it wouldn't matter who got it, a normal or an oddity.

She was a couple of hours before her shift started in the fitness centre and swung by here to fullfill a civic duty before her other duties started. So you see her with a sports bag and a case with a trio of tennis raquets in it. Not every student had their own kit but the tennis balls were kept in the fitness centre. So looked as she reported to reception as if she was ready to get out her gear and start a game. A black tennis skirt, trainers and a yellow polo shirt was the choice given the days heat.
She could see somebody working in lab one and that was a pretty normal thing to see. There was always something going on.

Honesty was important to Madison and she knew just what it was like to be the new girl. It had happened in High School, her days in College and then when she came here to study for her masters degree. She'd also worked in a coffee shop to support herself and had figured out some of the island but not much more than the town and some of the close beaches. Then she also had to get used to the job she was doing now.

So she'd cut Mickie plenty of slack and looking back at her spoke softly and sounding like a New Yorker. You couldn't take that out of the girl. "Perhaps you can help. I'm looking for the blood donation sessions" she mused and showed Mickie her blood donation card and her fitness centre staff ID. People were still a bit twitchy given what had recently happened and it made sense to make their lives easier. Then she added with a little caring smile "I know what it's like to be the new girl. Sometimes they get forgotten about but you can always ask for help".

She couldn't see anybody else at the reception at this point in time but she was sure help would come.

Mickie did seem to remember where the blood donation took place and being a regular giver in both the US and Ashford Isle was important to Madison. It was something anybody could do to help out after all. Mickie did still seem to be super nervous and perhaps needed help herself.

"So you know my name and what I do already. I see this a civic duty but I feel we haven't been properly introduced" she mused. "So when did you start in ARI?" she added trying to tease more details out of the woman facing her before she had to leave her again. And also to calm her a little as even a normal conversation and little things like a shared coffee break could help a lot.

"Once I'm done do you feel ready for a break? Then you can tell me all about whatever you feel able to share" she further added. Blood donation she rarely found took more than twenty minutes and there was still plenty of time to be a decent human being before she had her first students to deal with.

The fields Mickie's science fell into didn't ring any bells with Madison but it did sound impressive all the same. Science was something she hadn't gotten much into in high school but had gotten more into during her degree. Sports Science did involve physiology, psychology, anatomy, engineering and chemistry as well as coaching. So Madison was no stranger to a lab during her degree years.

"That sounds like an interesting hobby; both cleaning the isle and kayaking. You only really have coastal areas to do that here" Madison mused. "I can coach tennis and track and field; am still a decent gymnast too" she added before she made a promise to come back later.

"I'll call back to your lab later I don't have my first students for a few hours yet" she gently said before she had to leave for a little while. The little bit of pain from the needle was worth it given the end result.

It took slightly longer than twenty minutes but Madison did complete the blood donation. The visable sign being a little sticky plaster over the wound the needle made on its way it but it would heal at the normal rate for her.

The ARI building had a little dining area where a little cafe found its home right next to reception. Most of the time it was self service machines but was manned on occasion. Even if somebody wasn't there there was a snack vending machine and you just needed to swipe your debit card or insert coins to get what you wanted. It also had tables and chairs and large windows let in the plentiful sunlight.

Madison with a little smile on her face knocked on the door to the lab and gently asked "are you ready Mickie?"

Mickie looked happy as she reappeared and Madison knew better than anybody than you needed regular breaks. A job like Mickie's was also quite hard on the brain and thought processes and feeling mentally tired made you physically tired as well. "Oh the donation went well. I always need something sweet after that" Madison replied in a cheery manner.

As Mickie also told her there was a decent selection of snacks and food in the restaurant area today was one of the times it was manned by a young girl wearing normal clothes and an ARI apron who would have looked at home in the Island university. Madison knew about having to work to support herself only too well as she lead the way and asked for a flat white and a ring donut dusted with sugar. So the young girl got a please and thank you as sufficient coins got passed over. She could have used her card but had the actual money handy. There was still tables left free this glorious afternoon as the heat continued to beat down.

Seeing the selection Mickie had chosen Madison just assumed that this was a very late lunch and replied when she suggested a shaded corner to sit in. "That sounds like a good plan" she cheerfully said. Then took a seat at said table.

"Remembering to donate is the start. Getting a chance to fit it into the day is the hard part. I work six days a week already.

It sounds like you haven't been here too long. So how are you settling into the job? And how is island life treating you?" she added knowing it was hard enough to be the new girl without all that had been going on round here. Mickie was very pretty but Madison's heart was claimed already. Even with all the late shifts she ended up doing she still made time for her girlfriend. When something was important you made it work even if you lacked time.
