You couldn't work all the time. Neither could you just be a gym guy and with winter easing of slightly before it probally roared back again he took the chance to go the closest tavern to the hotel. He was getting to be a known customer by now and he watched football here. There wasn't a game on tonight but he could still relax with some beers. In a place like this there was always the chance of company. So finding a table he took of his heavy coat and stretched out. He needed this badly. Graysen Maddox

He had not did much around the island but he knew enough around the island and made his way into a pub. He did not get out much but tonight he fancied a drink that came in the form of beer and not fancy alcohol when he spotted a man who had take na seat at the table. "Mind if I take a seat with you?" he asked. David Lightfeather

David found another guy ask a question. He certainly didn't mind company and he'd stand out as soon as he spoke. If the red hair wasn't already enough to make him stand out. "I don't mind company. I'm David Lightfeather and I'm still trying to find my way around the island" he cheerfully replied. Having male company was something he was well used to adding "there's no football on tonight. That makes a change". The seasons playoffs meant the build up to the Superbowl was underway. He had no team of his own so seen every game as a neutral. Graysen Maddox

Graysen normally stayed, not in a hole but being a human on an island of hybrids did force one to stay to themselves in a way that they did not necessarily want to. Still he liked getting out. He took a seat. "Thanks," he said as there was still a little cautious in his voice but this was good. "Sorry to hear that, at least now you have someone to drink with right?" he asked as he raised his glass a little. David Lightfeather

A lot of people on this weren't obvious oddities. In fact two normal humans could meet up and not even be aware of that but David looked as normal as any other guy. He'd had the reverse to deal with growing up in a country that hated his kind but here people were a lot more accepting of differences and people in general. "A drinking buddy is always good" David cheerfully replied taking a drink from his own glass of beer. He'd just have to get used to beers quite different from home as this was the selection he had. "So have you been here on the island long?" he posed in a friendly manner. He'd made a huge adjustment in a very short time himself. Graysen Maddox

It was nice because even he had to admit that all he hung around was a woman. "I have been here probably around four months. I mean I came here for someone who thankfully I did find on the island but it is not a bad thing. I need to get out more though and not let anything cramp me in but it is hard. My name is Graysen Maddox, it is nice to meet you David." He took the time to extend his hand for a shake as he spoke. "I am still a bit no a lot weary about everything though I will never ever think that I know everything about the island it's too big in a way." David Lightfeather

David shook the offered hand cheerfully. Now he knew whom he was sharing beers with. So he listened more than he spoke which was good advice for anybody. "I've only been here about two months" he replied to Graysen "also pleased to meet you. I know about living on an island. It dosen't feel that way given you might only see so little of it. I grew up in a farming community, went to university is a port city and worked in a major city afterwards. All were very different experiences". That sort of summed up his life in the UK conferences aside. "This island feels different again. Smaller than what I was used too but big enough to explore. At least you found someone but its easy to get out more. Life isn't all about work as there's so many kinds of sports and activities round here. I'm more of a gym guy as I find it easier to fit into my schedule. I also brought my dog with me and he loves it here as well. So many varied walks for him". "I've heard you need to book your table for the Superbowl well in advance in this bar. I was more of a rugby watcher but that will do". One change he already had to make living here. Graysen Maddox

As he listened he nodded. "Well I tell you what David I think the last time that I had anything out that even slightly resembled a night out with the boys I was on a baseball team. It has been so long ago it's like I forget about it sometimes but I still feel so well about the memories. I tend to do that here I just, so many people are here and I don't know sometimes it feels easier to just hang solo but tonight is different." Maybe it was him who was stand offish or maybe he just thought he was older than he was for that was something he had not ruled out yet. "They gym is always good. I feel like it's a place that no matter what you are feeling or how you feel when you get there you do so much that when you leave you have worked everything out for the moment and then you can reward yourself." He signaled again for another round of drinks as he laughed. "I think it does get a little more rowdy when the superbowl comes. At the very least if you wanted to watch something else there is a spot down a few miles. The drinks are not as good but it still works for a bar." David Lightfeather

Given what Graysen had said so far David assumed this happened before he came to the island. He had the baseball project with Mallory that was still in the works but a lot of the ground work needed done before spring came. "Was this an amateur or professional team?" he posed. Graysen did look like he worked out too but David mainly did it to prolong his transformations; staying fit was a good side effect of all that work. "I did play soccer at an informal level but wasn't that good at it. I wasn't that good with others either; probally down to knowing their reaction if it was discovered I was an oddity" he added with a smile. Which was what had happened and there were very few ties with the old country remaining as a result. "Gyms in general do that. You can lose yourself in the workout and deal with all the stress" he further added and Graysen told him about a place further away that offered something else. "You ought to see an English pub when there's a big premier league match on. Its a similar kind of atmosphere and the games flows a lot faster. The whole thing including buildup only takes two hours" he said drinking more of his beer. He was clearly enjoying the company and since coming here his world had expanded. Graysen Maddox

The line between humans and oddities was one that he knew existed but he honestly had hoped that most of the oddities like most of the humans he met were good though he would never think so completely. He knew that was asking too much of anyone. "Two hours?" he shook his head. "I would probably head home rather than wait that long but I do like things in a timeley matter though I am aware that there are times where that will hardly happen too. All I know right now is that this will work and maybe everyone else will behave and there will be no fights." David Lightfeather

Graysen spoke sense in a world were it was a rare commodity; a lot of people didn't even try and think for themselves even with the evidence for them to find. "It works out at 45 minutes per half, a build up, half time break and the round up. You don't really notice the time pass. You're correct as well. This island has to work and we need peace since oddities have so few existing options. They can hide the best they can, accept OSE control over them or come here. I didn't think option two was a great choice either. I'm working in the Research Institute now. I was a scientist before and I can continue to be one. What we do there isn't just for the island or oddities; its for the world in general" Damon mused. Then drank more beer. He's start on round two soon enough. Humans and oddities were basically the same species only an oddity had a skill or ability a normal didn't. So they could laugh, love, be good, hate or be evil. Just like humans could be. "You know what this is the first time I have been to a bar in a while. The truth is when I first got here I found myself so caught up in the island I forgot that you can have a life outside of here and then sports. I tend to get caught up in those a little more than I need to, as well at times and then the days are gone and I do not know how to pull myself away. Either way I got out tonight and had good beer and made a friend, i need to do that more." Even though he did love being around Decipher he knew that a person needed to be around others. "We should make a guys night, see if we can get others to come out maybe in a couple of weeks or so and go from there." David Lightfeather

Time on the island had softened David's views slightly. He was more accepting of people in general now and even of normal humans. It was still actions that showed peoples true values no matter the species. He listened to what Graysen had to say and a normal human who viewed him as a friend despite knowing his nature was something new for him. If he had tried that in the UK he would have been reported. If only the rest of the world could be that way. "Everybody needs to get out now and again. We can do this again" David mused and then mused further. "Why not? Sometime between two weeks and a month sounds about right". Now he looked thoughtful as he turned the idea over in his head further. Graysen Maddox

He nodded. The conversation between them was simple but he found that he was enjoying it. "I'll drink to that." The truth was that he nursed his drinks after two because he did not want to literally get drunk. "I think that if we get enough people in the same room we will be able to make it an affair to remember. I am going to see if I can get some food in me, you want something?" David Lightfeather

"Oh some nachos and dip would be nice" David suggested. He finished of his first beer and was starting on the second by now. The trick was to get enough people for a guys night out. Too many and you might have a problem. Too few and it wouldn't really work. He would also get the next round in while the bar wasn't busy. That didn't take long; David was back slightly quicker than Graysen was with the food and they could continue to talk. "Too many people and they'd get in each others way. I know that from prior experience. If there are too many people tend to break up into groups anyway. So it might not be a problem for long" David advised. "My experience tends to be with work colleagues on a Friday evening after work. Our way of relaxing after a hard weeks work. Not all of them were guys" he added. He wasn't their line manager but was able to keep them motivated and supplied with cake. Graysen Maddox
