He would always be the first to admit that he had took a second and listened. It seemed like David had a good head on his shoulders and with that also had a good view of things which Graysen did appreciate. He took a second and spoke. "You know why I like drinking so much, I mean aside from the fact that I think I do enjoy the taste I find that it allows me to open up a part of myself that I might not otherwise show people. A good side to be honest if I am being truthful," he added as he laughed. "Yeah I get that, I think after a hard week everyone just wants to let loose a little and have a good time. I mean it's all allowed anyhow." "Women got drunk with you?" He had seen that but they were never that attractive. "That's actually kind of awesome, I loved a mixed gender atmosphere." David supposed it would be the same with a sports team after the match and given he was watching American Football these days a cheerleader or female support staff might also be there. It was more likely the cheerleaders would have a girls night out but you never knew. "Even medical scientists need to wind down after a hard weeks work for research and lab tests. We went to a little pub near the hospital. It had a pool table, darts board and jukebox and was ideal for just drinking and relaxing. A fairly typical English evening out. Not too different from this place in fact. I suppose you'd have done the same with the team after a game" he replied drinking more beer. Then added "guess who was the responsible one who phoned up taxi's afterwards?" He didn't date any direct colleagues during that time as it complicated the team setup. Outside the team was no problem and the same would apply here on the isle. Graysen Maddox

He nodded. "Yeah I get what you mean. I do think that I need to stand out and do more, maybe after I sleep off this bit of alcohol that i plan on downing tonight I will get out more. I have never been to Ashford Labs though I hear that they give free tours here or there. I think I might check in on one of those, have you ever seen one?" He took a second. "It honestly sounds like we both can use a little more excitement outside of work, I think that this is a nice start though." David Lightfeather

"It's Lab one which has the public tours. I've never actually seen a tour as I work elsewhere in ARI" David replied drinking more beer. He'd seen the start of one before but not the whole thing. "You just need to give them a ring up or book on the website" he advised. "Do you want to shoot some pool while we're here?" David asked. He was sure the rules would make sense after a game or two but he was used to red and yellow back home. Graysen Maddox

It might not seem like much to many people but just talking to another guy had Graysen feeling good. Not in like an attractive way but in the way that there would always be stuff that you could talk about with a man that you could not a woman. "Your life seems interesting," he said honestly. "I mean I always find people interesting just because it's a good way to know them and you also seem to have a really good head on your shoulders too which is always good." He was glad that he had chosen to come out tonight. Most the time he would think about it and tuck back on it and that was the last thing that he wanted. David Lightfeather

"There's always something to learn from science; I'm also curious and here I can fully explore the field. You still need to be responsible at the same time" David replied. He liked being with other people in general and in social occasions like this. This time it was about nachos and beer with company. "Then someday the rest of the world just might appreciate what this isle has done for them. Rather than treat us as enemies. At least some humans are taking that journey with us" he added. That day felt a long way of but less people fearing hating them was a good thing. He could do something about the problem his kind faced at least. Graysen Maddox

"Yeah I agree. I think that at the end of the day oddity or human we are all on this island and we need to make the best of it. Everything that can happen in the world can happen to us either way so why be bull headed about it if that makes sense." He knew that there was a lot he did not get but he could still be hopeful. Looking back at Graysen a reply occured to David. "I could say the same about the rest of the world. Unless we can get on there might not even be a planet some day. As a species we still wage wars against our brothers and sisters. Its been that way since the first civilisations and I doubt it'll change. Only the weapons have. In the meantime we'll do what we can right here and now". Another thought occured to him and he added "you can't help the war hawks or the fanatics. If they didn't fight oddities they'd fight somebody else". He drank more of his beer and ate another nacho. Not on the same level as a bowl of salted nuts but few tastes of home were available here. Graysen knew that at times he was too plain but at the end of the day he also knew that all that someone could do was make themselves happy and right now he was really happy with his life. "Would you care to try and play a game of darts?" He was going to head home but he did not want to quite yet, which he knew was only a sign that he needed to get out even more. "If you have somewhere else to go it's fine, I just need a lot of male bonding at the moment and remind me I'm not such a recluse in a way." David Lightfeather

"Oh darts sounds good to me. It's been quite a while since I've played it. I must also confess I'm not that good at it but I played anyway" David replied. He knew about the problem Graysen had. He nearly had it himself but friends had changed that state of affairs. It was only fair he tried to help the man talking to him. "I don't have to rush back. So lets see how rusty I am with the arrows" he added in a friendly manner. Graysen Maddox

He was not competitive in the least but he did want to make sure that everyone was able to have a good time and David seemed like he liked to have fun. Graysen had met a lot of people that included himself that it was hard to break out their shell. "You can throw first," he said. "We don't have to keep points i simply thought it would be a great way to loosen up even more and enjoy the rest of the night as we can." David Lightfeather

If you didn't need to keep points there was a game you could play with darts. A suggestion David could make to Graysen. He weighed the darts up in a free left hand to get a feel of the weapons of choice. Not too heavy, not too light. "I could suggest something that dosen't involve points. How about round the clock and it'll keep us both in practice" David replied. Dart boards didn't change much no matter where in the world you went. "We start with the 1 segment, go onto 2 and so forth and finish with a single 20 and double 20". It was a good and simple game which was good practice. So he started by hitting the 1 segment on the third dart. His aim was high but David was able to adjust before he handed the arrows to Graysen. The game had begun. Graysen Maddox

Now Graysen would be lying if he said he understood all the rave about darts but it was something that he wanted to discover and since they were here and he did not want to head home quite yet he thought he would literally give it a shot. The bar had seemed to settle into a nice sound in the background as well so that helped. He watched David's shot and nodded. "Nice way to start out," he said. He had a very little practice as he threw his dart and watched it land, just a shy way down from David's. "My aim has never betrayed me so much in my life," he said as he laughed waiting for David to take his next shot. David Lightfeather

Just because David came from the birthplace of darts didn't mean he'd be good at it. What tended to let him down playing properly was doing the maths in his head while working out a checkout. This game was different and as Graysen laughed at his own aim David was aiming for the 2's. Again it took 3 darts to find his target but at least he was being consistant. "It takes practice. The more you do this the better you'll be just like any other sport" he said in an encouraging manner. Things in the bar seemed to settle down nice nicely so perhaps it was better when football wasn't on and you had to make your own entertainment. Graysen Maddox

He did not think that he would enjoy a game as much as he was darts and it did help that David was pretty good too. "Hey you are better than I would have thought." He had quickly picked up on the game himself so he knew that it was not a hard game but still you had to have some hand eye coordination in the end. He watched the shot and then took another, but his landed below. "Damn it," he said as he laughed. "Looks like you are winning so far anyway." David Lightfeather
