Gigi explained way more clearly than her father ever did that a pet made a better friend than humans at times. Then it sounded like she was expected to take complete responsibility of said pet. She was fine with that as the little dog took a rest beside her. Leaving him to clean his face she replied with a smile. “He found me when I was out. He might be a stray but I don’t think so. I don’t get a lost dog feeling from him. I suppose I could take him to the vets to see if there’s a chip in the morning” Sophie replied. She was showing intelligence and logic of her own because if he’d really been a stray he would have really needed a bath now. This wasn’t the case. He was also naturally furry rather than groomed which was a puzzle. Kneeling down at Salem’s level she looked happy and said softly “I think it’s bedtime for the both of us”. They’d have tonight but the next day was uncertain. Then she looked up to Gigi to show she was ready to go back to her orphanage home. Gigi RichardsSalem Yang

There were a lot of kids that would bring a pet in that she would question about if they could do it but Sophie was not one because even at such a young age Sophie had always showed that she had so much more to offer the world. "My only hitch to letting you keep the dog is if someone comes and tries to claim it then you have to work that out with them." Personally they'd never get the dog back if it were up to Gigi if it came to that but to the here and now. An animal on sheets, she showed slight concern about that but again did not say anything. "After the two of you." Salem YangSophie Chang

Vet?Salem stiffened at the word. No way. Not happening. For more reasons than one, but he had done his time at a vet before. No thanks. Never again. Nuh-uh. He didn't even like human doctors. The Pomeranian grumbled and side-eyed the girl. There was nothing to worry about since he would bail before dawn, but the mere thought! He shook the tension from his pelt, the action forcing him to stand up. Sleep, now that was something he could get behind. The Pomeranian would follow after whoever started walking first. Sophie noticed this energetic little dog was showing personality. He did seem to really understand what she said as well. “I understand that Gigi. That’s for tomorrow and beyond but the dog can also make that choice” she replied. He had found her as she added “come on boy. I’ll find you something to lie on” with a child’s happy smile. So she led the way back to the orphanage where the next phase of the story would develop. Gigi RichardsSalem Yang

Back at the orphanage she let the people who came in and do what they needed in order to learn how to be adults at the end of the day and she was going to use that same logic for animals. "Just make sure no animal droppings are everywhere though the dog seems past that age and like he knows how to take care of himself. If you need anything else don't hesitate to let me know I guess you could send the dog with a note too." Salem YangSophie Chang**apologies the earthquake mess threw me off**

Excuse you, the little dog huffed at the assumption he would go on the floor like some animal. I'm housebroken. Not that she would know. Once in Sophie's room, the Pomeranian's stubbornness began to shine through. He refused to go anywhere near the bed and remained firmly rooted on the ground. A blanket or towel on the ground would suffice.
Fast-forward to half an hour before dawn, the dog began to stir. Rather, he forced himself to wake up, that nagging feeling in the back of his mind reminding him of the terrible situation he was in. Sure, there was a roof over his head, but he was in one of the worst places to be when the sun arose. Then came the next issue: the door was closed. Doors, his old nemesis. Salem resorted to scratching at the base of the door, hoping he would make enough noise for someone to wake up and let him out. He even let out a long shrill whine for good measure. Sophie told Gigi she understood. She knew you had to pick up your dogs mess and then bin it as well so back in her room with a door she found Salem a towel and folded it up for him once she found his spot on the ground. So when he started to scratch and whine about 30 minutes before dawn she was in a light sleep anyway. She took a good look at the state of affairs once out of bed and put on slippers and a dressing gown. “I’ll let you out into the garden area” she replied to him. This was still fully closed off unless he found a lucky gap in the fence. “You’re a good boy”. So opening the door for him she would see what he did first, grab a paper towel or two and then clean up his business. Then see if he just needed exercise in the garden or breakfast. Her plan at least. Salem Yang

Movement from the bed halted the scratching at the door. The Pomeranian whined again, softer this time, while he paced restlessly at the door. The moment the door opened, he slipped through and took the lead, only to realize he had no idea where they were going. The dog paused and looked back, only moving again once Sophie took the lead. Once the door to the outside was opened, he bolted. Like a dog enjoying the first few moments of freedom upon being let out, the black and tan Pomeranian ran around the perimeter of the garden. The aforementioned gap was never found, but he was never looking for it to begin with. His speed remained constant as he turned and charged toward the building on the far side of the garden. He did not slow down even as the wall rapidly neared. He jumped.Front paws connected with the wall, followed by the hind legs. The Pomeranian used the momentum to jump off the wall and over the fence. He landed and kept running. Sophie Chang

Seeing how active this little dog over the course of an evening she wasn’t surprised to see him running as soon as he had room to do so. A smile crossed her sleepy looking face as he ran his circuit of the garden without slowing down but then something unexpected happened. She helplessly seen him run towards the corner and make an acrobatic escape over the wall. She knew life was hard but this crushed her little heart a little bit more. He’d be long gone by the time she got to the fence. Then she’d have to tell Gigi what happened. However a seed had been planted in that moment of loss. She could still have a dog from the animal shelter. She’d just need time to get over this first. Salem Yang

He had disappeared entirely by the time Sophie reached the fence. Salem returned to the place he transformed the evening prior and sought out the clothes that were thankfully still there. One painful transformation and a quick change later, the dog-turned-man stretched before leaving the boundary of the orphanage entirely. It would be too suspicious if he returned now, so he might as well kill time in town until the next evening. Sophie Chang/exit
