murder in the middle of the leak (Alice)

The introduction to the leader wouldn’t happen yet as there was still some suspicion about outsiders; at least until they’d proven themselves. However Francis could wander about as long as the young woman guided his tour. So getting to see most things including the landing pad and she did believe him.

So he got to hear her story of how she’d joined up. “This is like being part of Noah’s Ark. The world is doomed to die in nuclear fire and drown in its sins but we will ascend into space and continue humanity. It’ll be a new start for the species who share the planet”. She did look like she really did believe this and it clearly was a doomsday cult of a sort. The doom would fall on the outsiders.

“But before the mission ends the village will know a purification by fire and death” she added. This didn’t sound wrong to her in the slightest.

“They asked plenty of questions of us in Browns Bay. Then dismissed us as crazy people but we know the truth” she replied. Meanwhile time had flown by and Alice and Luis were driving back to the compound to carry out their official business. Alice knew Francis would find things out about this cult in the time they were separated but those armed guards bothered her. She understood the need to feel safe and secure but add guns to a cult and that shield could be used as an offensive sword.

So driving up to the front gate she was all business as she talked to the people at the barrier. Then asked to see somebody in charge. So waiting with Luis in the jeep she hoped Francis was still alright.

Alice didn’t get to speak to the man in charge either. She ended up dealing with the armed men’s squad leader and since he could pass on what she said she told him about the body being found and showing him a photo of the body. Also telling him about him being known in the village it was confirmed he belonged here. A name was even supplied to identify him.

By now even Alice was convinced they were dealing with a cult and possibly a dangerous one. Just how much was another truth to uncover.

So as Frances got to explore with his guide he was finally shown the landing pad. “The landing craft will come here when it’s time to leave. We stay with the mission until it ends” she said. Which implied nobody got out of this cult by their own choice. Their dead cultist had lost his life once he left.

Francis continued to get his tour and then left to settle in. By now Alice and Luis had done their job and she was wondering if there was going to be more trouble for the village than a zombie horde coming their way.

So armed with more information she was able to send a request back to home base. That being to find out more about them and to determine what threat they could be. Though Alice suspected he could have been killed by the cult. Back at the police station they could only wait.

Neither of them knew what was going on with the cult leadership but the clock was ticking. An attack on the village wasn’t far away as was their plan but then a cult meeting was called when the Sky Father told his flock news that normal people would find shocking but it was an awaited day for them. The aliens were coming the next morning but they still had to deal with the unbelievers first.

Alice heard what Francis had to say and it must have been safe for him to talk to them in the first place. She’d still keep it short as she replied “how deep and creepy do you think it is?” She kept the speaker phone on so Luis and Anton could hear what Francis had to say.

"We'll get you out of there alive and in one piece. I had bad vibes when talking to the armed guards" Alice replied looking to the others rounds her. "Keep in touch as often as you can and by then you might have figured out what they plan to do. They shouldn't need armed cultists so who were they planning to fight?" she posed. Not just to Francis but also Luis and Anton.

"Perhaps police officers" Anton mused. Alice hoped he wouldn't have to be there at the end of this group but she had a feeling they'd be the ones sorting this out.

“Copy that Francis. Be careful and we’ll keep an ear out for your next report” Alice replied and then let him get on with things. They still had plenty to do back in the police station as the thought of themselves being cult targets wasn’t comforting. So gathering every gun they had gave them Alice’s pistol, two revolvers and four shotguns. Perhaps enough to defend this station but if the village got threatened they’d need local help. People did hunt round here so that was something.

So even with a crisis going on in the city Alice get a report back from the security services and and the Ashford PD about the cult. They could get them on illegal possession of firearms for starters but only their arrival here had been tracked. Still they had the name of the cult and their leaders to work with so Alice went to interpol contacts to find out more. This was disturbing as they’d left dead cult members behind on the east coast USA and French Guiana before coming here. There was a pattern of homicide she felt she could prove.

They could also ask round the locals in regard to their feelings about this group and the ones who had interacted with them got the creeps as well. So Alice suggested keeping armed lookouts in case the cult came here in force. It was a hunch but given they most likely killed their own in the past these locals might be next considering they rejected the message.
