murder in the middle of the leak (Alice)

Alice was thinking about what Francis suggested and the cult would only know about the local police officers. They’d gotten to the village when it was dark so unless there was a local cult contact… “Francis I stick out even here but what did they don’t know we’re here? Even if they have a contact in the village they’re more inclined to notice me” she mused. This would need further discussion as any local gossip would be about newcomers.

“Anton, how often would the cult go to the village? Also might they have a local contact?” she posed. The answer being not often and not likely to those questions. “The people of Browns Bay are mainly Roman Catholic. They don’t give those lunatics the time of day” he added. So there might be a plan after all.

So by the time they met up away from the cults compound Alice spotted their jeep and landed beside it. They could plan this more carefully now they could talk properly. They were all involved in this but Francis’ idea had merit.

“Francis you wouldn’t have to come from the village. You could say you’re from the city and you seen their leaflets in the village. We know they’ve been trying to sow the seed there but they won’t know us. So if you go in undercover I can be the one to inform them about the body we found.

We can set up timed meet up points even if you have no radio with you. If you’re able to come and go it won’t be a problem to tell any of us what you find” she said her concern obvious and she also looked over to the local officers who knew the ground better than they did. Luis suggested a few places away from the compound where they shouldn’t be spotted as plans formed.

Looking to her partner Alice knew he could handle this though it was very different from the usual investigations they did. “So if you go on ahead and look round we’ll make our enquiries later on. Myself and either Anton or Luis will go to the gate and inform them about our John Doe. They should at least be able to put a name to him. All you’ll have is your phone if they don’t take it off you so the officer who dosen’t go with me will be your outside contact” she replied and it did seem like they had a plan.

He’d need to leave anything that could identify him as a police officer behind and she hoped there wasn’t anybody in the village who was communicating with the cult.

Not quite knowing how the cult might think of its neighbours it might not be much given the rejection of its message. So a visiting officer from the city when it came to murder might not draw as much attention as you’d think. Most people would think it was beyond a sheriff and deputies pay grade so you’d expect the extra help brought in.

“Once there’s nothing to identify you as Security Services you could go in” she said to Francis. “I know our job has dangers so while we can’t be safe at least get out of there in one piece once it’s over” she added. Lucas felt a similar way when it was her in the dangerous cases.

“At least our island ID card dosen’t have our job titles on them. That’s something they’ll expect you to have”. It wasn’t a strange concept elsewhere in the world either but more of a European thing. Usually for teens to show they were of a legal age but there was other uses for them.

So while they got organised she looked worried. A natural reaction but she also knew Francis could deal with this.

So by the time Francis got organised plans were made to leave up anything else he needed before entering the compound. Alice suggested "I can call up to the compound this evening to give you enough time to settle in and they'll just think I'm there to inform them about finding their deceased member. Something routine they'll expect to happen".

So that left Anton with Francis as Alice left with Luis to get back to the village. "I can keep looking round away from the compound until they come back for me. Good luck going into what looks like a fallout vault" he said. Now as plans would advance so would the danger increase.

A cult was weird to begin with but the young woman in their uniform certainly gave of vault vibes. She seen the stranger who’d walked through the front gate but also looked concerned. Then her going over got others interest. More curiousity at this stage as going into their closed of community was unusual.

Meanwhile Anton was at the original crime scene giving it one more look over before wildlife disturbed it too much. Alice and Luis were clearing up what they had to do in the village to put the pieces of the case together which gave Francis four hours to have a look around before she turned up on official business.

So at present Francis was attracting a curious gaggle of people who thought he needed help. Certainly help in seeing the light and joining once he was helped out. “The sky father will know what to do” an armed cultist suggested and off he went. Which left two women asking Francis how he came to be here and if he needed help.
