Sophie wanted to test her idea out first before others might well be doing the same thing; not just here but perhaps in the hospital as well.
So she'd been in a thrift shop and found an old monster high doll. A Frankie Stein to be exact and the pale skin tone gave her something to work with as it would show colour better. She also had been to a craft shop and picked up a few pots of paints; base coat, a few flesh tones and matt varnish all done with brushes.
So after an undressed Ms Stein was looking back at her perhaps hoping for a bit love Sophie would keep her afterwards with a repaint close to her original form. She wouldn't mess with the head. This was about practical things like working out if handling and play would damage the paint and working out a process. The table she was working on had layers of newspaper down but she also noticed mould lines. So used an emery board file she borrowed to take these off.
She looked so absorbed in her work she had no idea somebody was even near her.

Jack had been looking around and lurking when he had spotted Sophie. "Hey Sophie, what are you up to?" he asked as he took a seat wondering just what it was that was going on. Could they do mini projects here if so that was amazing at least he thought so even if Sophie did seem so busy and truly into it. Sophie Chang

Sophie seemed slightly surprised but that look passed quickly when she seen it was Jack. Then she smiled a little happy she’d taken off the worst mould lines. “Hello Jack. I mentioned an idea for a group project to Gigi. So we could make our own fashion doll look like us. It dosen’t need to be a Barbie but we can make them look like oddities. So I wanted to make a prototype to show her and test ideas out. Like how to paint skin tone and if it will rub off when played with. So Frankie Stein will be helping me but she will have love later on” she cheerfully replied. Jack P. J.

He nodded. "Nice, the island does seem to lack things for new children to do so this is good." She seemed happy here and he did like that for her and plus she was keeping herself busy which he also thought was very good too. "Want some help?" Sophie Chang

Sophie looked thoughtful as she took a few seconds to consider the offer and beyond. “You could but if we took a quick trip out we could get more dolls from the thrift shop. They did have a few. There might even be a male doll if you want to make your own. To paint a face we’ll need more colours anyway” she suggested. She could even pick up new ones so they’d have clothes to swap around. She did look quite bright today. Certainly creative and happy and eager to involve others. Which was why she needed to show what could be possible. “We can also go to the craft shop in the mall and even get some ice cream” she happily suggested. She just needed shoes and her hat. Jack P. Jack was honestly more than impressed, with what Sophie was doing and the fact that it had also been improved. Maybe it was not too late to talk to the woman in charge about putting up some kind or archery field but he did not want the other children to use it to shoot arrows into one another and no one get into trouble. "Okay let's get you where you can be easily pushed and we can take that trip out." Sophie Chang

It was still early stages as she had described to idea to Sita and Gigi but she wasn’t sure if it could happen officially yet. So she figured she could build test dolls to show what was possible but also get others interested. Then it would be harder to turn down but even if it was there would be rather unique dolls round here. So Sophie led the way and Jack would find new places as she picked up three more dolls for testing and general use. There were younger children here so they could use them as they were. First stop was the thrift shop and than included a Ken. Then the craft shop as they got acrylic paints to paint faces and very tiny brushes. Also spray base coat and spray varnish along with plastic card, wire and files. They wouldn’t sell her a drill nor knives but she figured there was enough tools and things for now. So finally they were getting the ice cream. A chance to relax after all that feverish activity. Jack P. J.

"How did you come up with this idea?" he asked. Jack was comfortable here so he always wanted to know how people came up with stuff as he looked around with his ice cream. "I mean I know it's like a doll but to make one that is like us, an oddity version, just thought it would be awesome one day or keeping your mind off the pain? I do hope that your pain is less these days." Sophie Chang

Sophie looked back at the Jack. At least things would look normal as they shared a table in the food court though her chair travelled with her. "I don't feel pain these days. What bothers me is why my leg isn't recovering. I had feeling in it, then lost it and its coming back slowly with intense rehab. I still can't walk on it" she replied shrugging her shoulders as she could do little about this apart from what she was doing already. Then she added "what gave me the idea was thinking about my real mother. My dad and aunt told me about her but there has never been a photo of her. I figured I could make a doll of some kind so I'd have some idea of what she was like. It kind of led from there. One of my test dolls will be her". An idea that a little girl had to try and recreate a past she never remembered. Who knew where it might lead. Jack P. J.

"What did the doctors say about it?" he asked. They should at least he hoped that they would be looking into it though he knew everyone was different. "Thinking about your real parent is always a good thing too and it is good that they can still give inspiration even though they are no longer in your life." Sophie Chang

Sophie had to give this a little thought given what she'd been told by Sita and her therapist. Sita had suggested the intense therapy but beyond that progress was an unknown. She was an oddity which just might complicate things and certainly taking after her mother in other ways. Right down to flame wielding and a higher body temperature. Also her small size too. "I just need to keep doing the therapy and see if that improves things" Sophie replied shrugging her shoulders. Living in the orphanage had certainly changed the way she dressed and it was mainly dresses or if she felt more relaxed shorts and t-shirts. Also she'd never worn hats until now. "She might be at some point but that will probally have to wait until adulthood" she added. "In the meantime I have the stories about how bad ass she was. Perhaps some day I can do something similar". Sophie sounded sure of that based on what she could do before. It might be as much with her brain as with her body. Jack P. J.

"One day at a time, I started to say one step at a time but I did not want that to be a careless joke at the same time so here we are." He shook his head and he took a minute and then he went on as they were talking. "I think I need to make an appointment with Dr. Shaw but I do not want to go by myself, will you come with when I get around to making it?" Sophie Chang

“Or at least a wheel rotation at a time” Sophie chuckled. Then Jack asked a question. She could go with him and he’d done that for her too. “Of course Jack. I’ll do that for you” she added with a smile. She liked getting out too and they could do something afterwards as well. Jack P. J.

"Thanks," he said. "I don't know I just think it would make it easier to deal with." He felt like they both had a lot that they had to deal with but Sophie seemed okay dealing with hers at least as far as he could see anyway. "Then after we can find something fun to do." Sophie Chang

Sophie did have frustration to deal with as though she had recovered slightly since her relapse she couldn't see any progress. The rehab was intense and took a lot out of her too. She knew she had to be patient but wasn't too from wondering if it wouldn't ever get better. She did hide it well but at some point this would burst out like a river breaching a dam. "We certainly can Jack. The whole island is open to us" she replied smiling a little. Even with the frustration she was still highly motivated. She might even be a leader of people some day. "I think we got enough to get more people involved once we get back" she added but sounded a bit tired. She burnt bright but hadn't her usual boundless energy since being shot. A bit of a mystery for her. Jack P. J.
