Tonight was a pub night. The sign above the door declared this a tavern but the principle was the same. You could get beer, watch sport and shoot pool.
David and Emmett had gotten to know each other over time and tonight the Seattle team was playing in Chicago. They knew the start time and David had saved a bit of time by claiming a table with access to the big tv screen and already had a pitcher of beer and glasses waiting. He probally would never get to watch live rugby again but American Football was close enough. It just took a lot longer to play a full game and by then they'd need more beer.
He felt exiled from his homeland but this island was the one part of the world he could do something to help in. It also looked like the only real future his kind would have so it was going to have to work out.

there was nothing better than unwinding after a long day with a drink. well there were other things he enjoyed that helped him unwind like a run, but this was just as good. depending what the day there were times when it was full of people and as he walked in it seemed like today would be no different. it took him a few seconds to spot david and he made his way over."hey, you got a good spot."

David when he was home was known for finding a good spot in a pub and with a smile gave Emmett a welcoming hug. Tonight was the time to put the dark thoughts away and for them to have fun. The future was very uncertain but he always tried to be positive. Just how many people he knew back home would have any positive memories of him? Not many even with all he had done for them.
"I got the beer in advance too" he cheerfully replied as the pre-match buildup continued. This was a game that was very numbers heavy and could follow it. There was a comfort in numbers and science as they didn't change but the use you put them to could.

he grinned as he took notice of the beer."now you're just spoiling me."he said with a chuckle before taking a drink. he was really starting to settle in. it had been odd a first figuring things out, but he had taken thing a step at a time and eventually found himself in a sort of routine."who do you think is going to win?"

David then took his turn to pour frorm the pitcher and laughed a little. "Beer usually helps things along" he mused as he filled up his tall glass. David felt at home here himself though he'd hadn't needed as much time. He suppose it was the same as having to feel settled in two different cities before now. Now came the question and it might be an obvious answer.
"Usually the team with the best defence can put pressure on the other quarterback and gain good field position but not always. Long passes seem to work at least some of the time" he replied. Something he seen quite a lot in Rugby Union as field position meant pressure and points if you used it properly. The games were similar enough for the same principles to work.
Now he took a drink with only a few minutes before the start of the first quarter. The Bears cheerleaders were doing their routine and looking quite sexy; they'd freeze to death out there.

he took another drink in agreement."for sure it helps."he glanced around looking at all the other people that also seemed to agree with his statement. if they hadn't then this place wouldn't be as packed as it was right now. one thing or another brought people here to enjoy themselves. whether it be the drinks, the atmosphere or the game.
emmett nodded as david spoke about the respective teams. emmett really wasn't that into sports, but he didn't mind watching a game or two now and again. he wasn't an avid fan like some of the people here, but even so he would still watch to see who won."so far it seems like one team is in the lead, though not by much."he chuckled before taking another drink.

Ultimately this seemed to be about chilling out and drinking beer. Not everybody was there for all those things but there seemed to be a contentment in this small audience. As the game went on in the background David did note that it looked like a tight game in the first quarter. As if the teams were trying to figure each other out.
"Seattle leading by a converted touchdown. That's not much" David agreed. This form of football was much more interesting to him because he could discect plays in real time. Other games moved too fast to allow that.
"I think they'll get the next score" he mused. He took another drink of his beer enjoying the atmosphere. Even if the watchers were neutrals they were still being entertained.

he took another drink and moved to refill his mug. he had gotten off of work and headed straight here. he was starting to get a bit hungry. maybe he would order something to munch on while he was there. emmett nodded as david gave him insight on the game."so there won't be a tie huh?"emmett said as he glanced back at the tv."i'm gonna get nachos you want anything?"

As far as David could see it looked like the Bears cheerleaders had get up and go than the players had. They'd also get a chewing out once their coach got hold of them. Then Emmett offered some nachos and David hadn't had those before. A new experience was a good one.
"Can I have nachos too?" he posed as the first quarter ended. That was the chance to refil the beer and get food for everyone; not just the people in the stadium. "I can't see this being a tie. These bears haven't any bite about them and without field position you have nothing.
Anyway how was your day?"

"yeah. of course."it was the least emmett could do for david, seeing as he had gotten here first and scored them not only a good spot, but drinks too. he managed to wave down someone and placed the order in for the two nachos. he hadn't had them in quite sometime and they just sounded good to him. with the melty cheese on the tortilla chips. though these were not just chips and cheese they were loaded up with other things."it was good. how was yours?"

Soon enough David would find out what nachos were really like as he topped up his glass of beer from the pitcher. There probally was enough to last to half time at least as he heard the reply from Emmett. He knew his newest friend was still trying to figure things out and having a good day was an improvement on the past.
"My days are usually filled with interesting science. They're good most of the time" he replied and given the nature of ARI what he said was very understated. He was now working with science that would have blown his mind only a year before. He couldn't say much about what he actually worked on but it could well benefit all of humanity as that was the aim of the institute.
