warning shots (Lucifer)

Rebecca was out and about too. Geared up and parked up beside her motorcycle on the sea front close to the old town. Hearing her phone vibrate she found a spot to answer it. Arnes’ number and name was displayed so she answered.

“Arnes, what’s going on?” she asked. He’d never phoned her at midnight before so he must have a good reason to.

Rebecca heard what Arnes had to say. He wouldn't see it but she nodded; way too many times she'd ended up in something without starting it. "I actually have. You mentioned danger and it sounds serious. We need to meet up fast and make sure you are safe for starters. Can you hide away somewhere in the meantime" she posed. "They may not have seen you so don't panic" she added. Now she had to think and involving the police now would be letting them in too late to help the possible victim. So that left it to her and Arnes who were on the ground.

“Alright. Give me a street address I’ll be as fast as I can” Rebecca replied. Once she had this it was back on the motorbike. Thankfully it wasn’t far and the traffic was light so once she found the street which took about five minutes she quietly parked up and slipped her revolver into her drop leg holster. Her abilities would be enough if things got close up and personal. Her dark clothes gave her concealment in the dark and she left her helmet with the bike.

So seeing the orange bin she crept up to it knocked on it. “Arnes” she quietly said while keeping an eye out for his bad guys. So far she hadn’t been spotted and as the clubs and restaurants wouldn’t close for another hour at least people would be scarce round here. Her first thoughts was it might be criminals settling a score but with no evidence nothing was of the table.

“We may have company in less than an hour. The social life of the island starts to end round 1am. So we don’t have long to look round. I wonder if the body is still there” Rebecca mused as they left the bins behind and emerged out of cover. He looked dressed for a run and she looked like something out of a spy movie. Tonight going into the next morning would be very interesting.

The body had been left and waving her left hand it lit up like a flaming candle so she could see better what she was doing. A few bullet wounds were visible so this man was on a one way trip to the cemetery. Using her other hand she partly turned him onto the side and checked him pulse to make sure. “Dead as a dodo” she added before placing him back.

“Local criminal gangs put their victims in the sea for the sharks. So why did they leave this guy here?” Rebecca quietly posed. Something didn’t add up but she did point out to Arnes the cameras round them and further away from them in this very public place.

“If people heard the shots the police will be here. It won’t take long to find him once they check those. A message was sent rather than it being a normal criminal killing. I need to call the police but don’t you worry. I do jobs for higher authorities round here” she added. So she made the call on her mobile. The police would be on their way but she did try and calm Arnes down.

So if he had ever seen a cop show the routines would be familiar. In her past she might have been doing the shooting herself and far away from here. Now she was technically part of the law with connections to Avery.

“They might not even realise you accidently arrived on the scene. The camera footage can tell us if that is the case. Also there might be something bigger going on but once the PD do what they need to do we might be asked further questions” Rebecca replied. Before long there was uniformed officers and homocide detectives going over the scene under lights. The news of this would probally be on the radio station by the morning.

Their statements were taken and with professionals at work they were released. Further questioning might happen later on. Once shooed away Rebecca was able to suggest to Arnes “it looked like a contract hit to me or something similar. Multiple shooters mean a bigger operation. I’m sure of it”. She’d been part of larger teams in California, Quebec and Mexico before where it clearly was an organised crime operation.

Rodrigo Delgado. That was the name on the ID she got a quick look at before she had make it look like she’d never even touched him. Fiery hands didn’t leave any fingerprints and hers got burned off years ago. “It might be a Mexican operation but I’ve never ran into them here. If they killed their own man which could be for different reasons” Rebecca mused. “Perhaps somebody wanted a bigger cut of the pie or he was an informer”. She’d seen both happen but why they were here bothered her. That was clear by the look on her face.

“Where I am about to go is dangerous. Smuggling usually comes into the city via the North slums and I believe the answers are there. So are my contacts” she added. He sounded excited and that might be enough to keep fear at bay. “We can find things out and take actions that will make things harder for this cartel. First we need to get you properly dressed for the occasion”.
