There was always something going on here. If it wasn't radiation and zombies there was hurricane threats and more. So with the clearing up after the Strife attack taking longer than expected and the Kings Medical ship still in port David and been busy. What the Chinese fleet was actually doing here was another story. So giving Oliver a phone call it was time to catch up. Just two guys going to the canopy bar and dealing with a national crisis. One terrorist attack could lead to another elsewhere and also give other groups ideas. Oliver Dougard

The people here seemed unphased by the events that he had read in the morning headlines but that was okay as he made his way down to the canopy bar. He expected some type of extra security but no people were still at least allowed to come as they pleased. "Hey David," he said as he sat on a stool. "Everything okay considering?" David Lightfeather

The bar that was right beside the mall hadn’t escaped unscathed. There were a few boarded up windows that would stay that way until the glaziers got round to them but people had been phased while the attack happened. After that they got angry and back to their stubborn selves. He could understand the protest that the local radio had reported as the big media outlets got wiped out; nobody expected a journalist to die and that was a shock. “I got shot but it was glancing. I got to an OSE shelter with Peyton and Ella after taking out the fanatic by going full big dog on him. I felt really angry at the time but this is the worst thing those blue f*&kers could have done to themselves. The world will want to crush them again. So will my kind” David replied as he brought Oliver up to date. He personally wouldn’t mind feeding any they found still on the island to the reef sharks. Anyway they could do with a drink before he got bogged down with work again. “The UK’s medical ship is in port and some of their staff will be in our hospital. When I came here the blockade was still in place. So things really have changed”. He did wonder how Oliver got on so added “what happened with you?” Oliver Dougard

"Wow," he said as he was listening. "That seems like it can be both exciting and dangerous but I guess that is anything in the long run." He did not quite have a story like that but he did go silent for a few seconds. "My family has always dreamed of a simple life and this place was picked though from what I have seen I do not know if I would consider it simple. My sister is happy so for me that is all that matters plus I did score a job here and could not turn that down." David Lightfeather

"Life is more complicated here than it looks like on the surface but you can live a simple life if you want to. It's not hard to buy some land away from the city and build a house with a garden. So what job did you end up doing?" David replied. It sounded like his sister was getting on well and a happy sister might also mean a happy brother. Oliver Dougard

"I got a job offer for the ose here" he said. "I will be doing my paper work in the next few days so I will know about where and what my actual job is but from what I have heard just from a few people buzzing here and there some people are cautious which I do not blame them for." David Lightfeather

“Everybody needs a job. You’ll be working in a mighty unusual place but I knew OSE before coming here. Their UK branch outed me not being baseline human and that caused me a lot of problems. They were doing their job but I wonder if they realise just what issues they caused by doing it” David replied. “You should take the chance of getting firearm training from them as this isn’t the last we’ll see of those blue lunatics” he helpfully added as you might as get as much training as you could from your employer. “I’ll be back in a moment. What drink do you want?” he posed. He felt friendly enough at present to Oliver but that could improve further. His personal attitude to OSE was softening and fatherhood probally helped that. "Not the best reputation that they have," he said. He did need work though. "I actually thought about working for the ARI but it was hard to get an interview so I am leaving that up to my sister, she is probably more of a science head than I will ever be." He was glad that it did not seem to be too off putting. "Can I get a lemon limeade?" He had no idea if they even made those here but he hoped. David Lightfeather

“So I might run into your sister in that case” David replied after he brought their drinks along with a bowl of salted nuts. They did do lemon limeade and his choice was a local beer. “They don’t have a good reputation but they do have a chance to improve it. I just hope they can given the common enemy we face” he added passing Oliver his drink. Oliver Dougard

"You might, she's blonde which helps none but she will introduce herself if you do." He did not know if they looked alike or not but maybe. He shook his head. "Maybe they will improve it but if not hopefully not everyone judges just based on one action or multiple actions but we will see." David Lightfeather

“ARI is a big place so it’s possible. My mother will be coming over sooner than planned following that the attack. Naturally she was worried once news got back to the UK so she’s flying over to see things for herself and her grandchild. We’ll look after her”. Now he poured his beer and sipped it. He was surprised to see salted peanuts here as that was something he’d known back at home. Oliver Dougard

"The attack seemed a bit random but I do think it scared a lot of people, me being one of them." He could be honest about that and then he knew he still had a job to do. "I'm not looking forward to if the ose branch ends up having to look into it but jobs require us to do things and that is always going to be the case." David Lightfeather

David didn’t think it was random. You planned something like this and it had to be coordinated with the arrival of the candidates for the US presidential election. At least the way he thought. “We all get scared Oliver. It’s how you deal with it that determines the outcome. For example even before I got here I lived in a big city. You had crime, political instability and how you dealt with what you seen defined my view of life. I even had a knife pulled on me living there but I fought off a robber. I still carry the scar from the minor wound. Now I have a scar from a bullet wound to remind me of what it takes to defend your family from people who would kill you for not agreeing with their world view. I’ll always fight. The child of a lone parent dosen’t get it easy growing up. Now I want to see my mother enjoying life rather than just living. I now know what she sacrificed to be a parent. I also think OSE will be involved into looking at this. So will other agencies like the FBI, CIA and others. We have a common enemy. My kind is a branch of hunanity just like homo sapiens is. They can co-exist and I hope my daughter will never have to go through what I had to deal with”. Oliver Dougard

"I agree and that is true. I think that we never know what our parents gave up in order for us to live as we do," he said. He liked to be that optimistic and he did believe that was something that did come as an adult. "I do think I will end up having paper work a mile high but work is okay as long as one keeps busy." "Most new people start with the paperwork. By the you work through that you'll have learned enough to do a lot more" David replied. That was the same in any job no matter where it was. "Always learn as much as you can; the more you know the more you'll get to do" he also added as this was true in any job as well. "Even I had to start as a ward clerk before I got to be a biomedical scientist". Oliver Dougard
