David had made sure to find out what had happen. Even the BBC had reporters here given there was going to be the visit of the sitting president and the two other candidates. What reports we could cross reference with phoning home to his mother and his family in Dublin. Strife was supposed to have been defeated and that made them nervous all over again.

His mother had confirmed she wanted to come over for Christmas and that would happen. After finding safety he was frankly angry about what he was having to do just to keep his partner and daughter safe and the people who had died that day. If those lunatics wanted a war they’d get one. Coming here took away a good part of his anger from before but if the rest of the world was also a target they just might understand what he felt. Now he’d calmed down knowing what they did in ARI would matter even more now.

Hearing Peyton he carried Ella with him to the dining table. At least she was more like her usual self now as he asked “what’s on today my love?” once he entered the kitchen. He still felt pain in his left arm but it was manageable.

Putting Ella down she toddled over to momma. They tended to work at different times of the day so this was rare even with their daughters habit of waking up at night and wanting in beside her parents. Usually at the bottom of the bed and making sure they were up when she was. David was also up early enough to walk Sparky but they’d all slept well.

“We don’t get to do this too often but it’s fun when it happens. I think there’s baby porridge and apple in the fridge for Ella” he replied going to get it and then heat it in the microwave. The porridge was extra fine and he made the stewed apples himself so Ella got what they did a lot of the time.

David knew it wouldn’t take long to warm up Ella’s breakfast. So he got a tea spoon for Ella so she could be fed. Then he’d get his breakfast. The microwave pinged and the job was done. So he gave this to Peyton.

“We’ve had a hard couple of days but a stubborn people live here. That applies to oddity, human plus and human. They were even stubborn people before the Ashford’s even bought the island” David replied. This island would never give up. Ella noticed her breakfast and sounded excited.

“Sometimes different shifts help my love but we need a better date once things get back to normal” he added. This situation hadn’t gotten him down for long.

“The UK used to know what that was like. We lost it after the war and the end of empire but given recent history with STRIFE we might get it back again” David replied. Now those terrorists would need crushed all over again and he did hope his homeland could lend his new home some help.

David seen Ella enjoy her breakfast and he suggested “how about when we’re both free we find a nice restaurant for us and a sitter for Ella.” Time like this was nice and the carnival day should have been a good day as well. He’d still have that bullet scar to remind him of the event for years.

David did hope the UK could at least grow a backbone. His mother always had that as she not only raised him as a lone parent but also was a pillar of her community. STRIFE had affected his extended family too and he wanted her to be able to at least retire here. In the meantime she didn’t want to leave the UK as she had an important job to do.

“It’s difficult at times but I do feel safe here. I just wish I could bring my mother over for longer” he replied before asking “what do you want for breakfast?”

“It’s not as easy as that. She dosen’t leave her village very often as she feels she can’t leave the post office for long. She’s a stubborn woman” David replied. Which indicated why he was the way he was. “Emigrating from the UK would be the best option in my opinion but that will take a lot of convincing. She just wouldn’t go back to Dublin” he added.

Then he pondered what he wanted for breakfast as Ella finished hers. “I’ll take Ella so you can get your toast. I’ll make scrambled eggs later on” he said as he took Ella into his arms. He could wait for breakfast.

They did share the child care equally so David softly replied as their daughter got clingy. “Thank you Peyton. Better make it two eggs as Ella likes these too”. Which was the case as their daughter liked getting some of her parents breakfast as well.

“I hope it’ll work out. If my views can soften living here her might well could living in England. I could see only too clearly how well she took to the country life” he added as Ella piped up “want eggies”.
