Ever since the girl from the jungle was brought here she’d tagged onto Sophie and the nervous girl had become a clingy one. Clingy to Sophie that is as she didn’t say much and looked nervous separated from her. It did seem the only time she did have away from Kimberly Weir was when she went to school or could leave her for long enough to be with Sawyer and Carmen.
Sophie knew she had to be patient with the new arrival and was even involving her in the doll project but today she was helping to bake for the children. Four big cakes was the order of the day so with two large bowls each everything was laid out. Kimberly looked focused doing this as she mixed the wet ingredients into the chocolate cake. The Victoria sponge was already mixed and that left Sophie was mixing the red velvet and lemon cakes. So something for everyone once they were baked.
“looking good Kimberly. Make sure it’s not lumpy when you pour it” she softly said. They looked like an odd pair of cooks being small and needing to stand on boxes to reach the cupboards but doing this helped the entire group home.

One look at Rocco and no one would know he came from money so he had checked into the orphanage. When his family found out he was here he was sure it would be the end of him but still for now he did not mind it. He was no one to be troubled with and he liked the thoughts of being alone. He passed and heard the word Kimberly. Oh it seemed that girls were baking. "Hello," he said. Sophie Chang

Somebody did enter the kitchen while these little cooks worked away. Both looked round to see Rocco and you mostly started your island time here. At least until you got settled elsewhere. “Carry on Kimberly” she softly said and while the blonde girl was doing that Sophie walked over to him. “Oh hello” she replied cheerfully. She also sounded Californian as she added “this is something I do for the orphanage. We do have cooks but not bakers and it’s good to give back. I’m Sophie by the way”. Rocco Ravenmore

He listened and nodded. "Sounds cool," he said. "Sophie," he said and then he thought. "Rooster," he said. "Family said when I was little never could keep my hair down so that's what they call me." Not a lie but Rocco was not telling anyone who he was related to if he could help it. Sophie Chang

“Hello Rooster” Sophie replied. People only usually stayed as long as they needed to but she was here for the long term. “Do you think you’ll be here for long?” she posed. She usually sounded friendly and added to Kimberly had finished pouring the cake batter “looking good. We can put them into the oven when the cakes rest”. Rocco Ravenmore

"Yep," he said. "Probably until I get grown," he said honestly. He wanted no part of his family. "I'm a good rooster however," he said as he laughed. "Need to find me something to do to help me out though." Besides he had to find that girl with no name to terrorize. "Don't suppose you have seen a girl about this high?" he said using his hand. "She has my jacket." Sophie Chang

So he’d be staying as long as her older friends. She wasn’t the youngest person living here now as there were under tens and younger as the orphanage grew. Rooster did suggest a need to do something to keep himself occupied. “There’s always plenty to do. What about a course in the university?” she said and shook her head when asked about a girl who had his jacket. “I’d need a better description but there’s quite a few girls round that height here”. She hadn’t seen one wearing a boys jacket either. Rocco Ravenmore

"I do need to enroll into uni," he said and that was a natural first step. "Damn," he said disappointed but not giving up. "I'll keep a look out so you do baking?" That seemed okay everyone needed general skills. "All the time or is it a hobby when you get bored?" Sophie Chang

As Rooster expressed the need of university that did sound sensible. If you learned things your value to the community increased as did your opportunities. Then he posed a question which she replied to. “I cooked all the time while I had a family in Los Angeles. Neither my father nor aunt were good at it but I do it to help out here and I do bake every few days. The cookies seem to go down well”. You could bulk bake cookies for a few days and they’d stay good in the jar. Whoever wanted one could just take one. Rocco Ravenmore

"That is so helpful I am sorry if I seem shocked it's just been a while since I have met someone who helps just for the sake of it." Very unselfish. "Anyway as the local rooster around here now, once I get things down we can expand this cookie business operation. Doing it for free is good but doing it for others and benefiting yourself with cash, is it not much better?" Sophie Chang

The image of the rooster looking after the hens did come to mind. She helped since she felt the need to give back and it helped improve a skill she could develop even further. "Do you want to try one?" she posed pointing out the large cookie jar in the kitchen. "Thank you Rooster but while the idea is nice I already have a side project going on that brings in some money. I give fashion dolls and GI Joes a second life. It started with helping out the children here but has expanded into making custom dolls which make a profit and cover other costs. So you can have a doll or action figure that looks like you and show your oddity ability. However if you think you could help expand it I could do the baking and we could have a partnership" she replied. The idea did have merit but she hadn't the time to really devote to it. Perhaps she could teach Rooster how to bake his own and suppliment her output? Rocco Ravenmore

He had to think. Did he know anything about real true business? Probably not was he going to do it anyway yes. "Oh yes I will be able to expand this." How he did not know yet but he had that cute kid face thing in the pocket. "Partnerships are good," he said because he knew that they were. "You can keep 80 percent I don't need more than 20." Cookies were simple enough to bake. Sophie had the production model to supply close to an entire orphanage but could that be jacked up to business level? That would need further thought. So looking back to Rooster she did voice the start of a thought. “Production would need to be upped to make selling these a possibility. So how that happens will need to be determined” she said. "I agree but it does not seem like it would be hard to fund, maybe get some other children to help and then with the summer coming give very small samples and if they want more charge a little more than you paid but you seem to know how business works. Could make money over the summer if nothing else." Sophie Chang

Asking Kimberly to put the cakes into the oven now they were up to heat Sophie got back to Rooster. She'd heard what he'd had to say and with further thought about it replied "I can start by teaching Kimberly how to bake them, even teach yourself if you think you'll have the time to help out. The main problem is there only being one oven so the stock might well be limited even if we have time on our side". Well, if that was going to limit the stock they'd have so be it. Selling them here would be a start and if the word got out.. business could be good. "We can make fancier cookies and that's the one that get sold" she mused. What she baked now in the cookie line was basic and suitable for use here. "Lets run this by Gigi" she added. Rocco Ravenmore
