She had came more into her motherhood roots than she thought that she would but today she was trying to chop up carrots as she put Nina down and screamed for Sophie and Sawyer. "Sophie, Sawyer!" she said as she rocked Nina. "Will both of you come in here and help me with these carrots please?" She knew that she had been quiet lately but she felt better now and was ready. Sophie heard the call for dinner assistance; yes there was cooks here but doing it yourself was informative. Especially as the orphanage would need a cooking crew for the Thanksgiving dinner. After that it wouldn't be long till Christmas came round. Sophie rolled into the kitchen proper again wearing a red dress. Just being here changed the way she dressed and there had been some nice dresses round her size donated. She just needed to learn how to sew a little to make the adjustments. "So what are you cooking along with the carrots?" she posed and seen Nina being rocked. She was getting bigger and her first Christmas would be special. She also seen the first pile of chopped carrots and rolled over to that worktop. However it was too tall and she had to go to plan B. That was use her crutches to stand up and stay like that while she was doing this chopping. She did feel she was getting better but it was taking a long time. The change in Carmen was good and he made his way in. "Thank god it's you guys," he said as he was genuinely relieved. "How is everything?" Were those carrots? "I wanted to do this trick that i seen on tik tok. Carrot bacon had been the first thing that came to mind and then I thought that I just wanted carrots. I need to learn to cook more and it does not seem like it would be too hard to do so here I am and let me tell you learning to cook is so muc harder than it seems but i am not giving up." “Hi Sawyer” Sophie replied cheerfully. Then heard what Carmen had to say. As a good cook herself she knew what you could do with a vegetable on its own. “If you want to do carrots on their own you could be adventurous. You could make carrot crisps as a snack if you slice them thin enough. Then fry with very quickly in the same way as potato chips”. Her first suggestion. The second one was more expected. “You could also purée them and freeze them for later use. I’m also trying to remember how much of that you’d need for a carrot cake”. He waved to Sophie and as long as he did not have to eat any of this he would be okay. "Skipped over bananas Carmen?" he was simply asking because he would think that one should start with bananas but truthfully what did Sawyer know. "If you're thinking about solid food for Nina pureed carrots are a good start. Then use it as a base for your own baby food by adding other puree vegetables and a pureed cooked sausage. For dessert try frozen yogurt with some fruit in it. Also something with bananas" she suggested. A yogurt would be a good breakfast in its own right for a baby. "We could try and prep some of that today if you wanted" she added. She was more used to cooking for people with teeth but this still was cooking that they could get involved in. "Sawyer if you could find the blender we could do this and there should be something like empty jars or plastic containers; at least before the recyclable refuse is collected" she added. This had to be the oddest most understood friendship to ever exist. Somehow Sophie had found herself friends with two people who had a baby but were not an item, just thinking about it made Sawyer feel like there was hope for the world. "Food is always good." It was true that Sawyer lacked basic food essentials but he was learning. "A blender," he was trying to remember what that looked like and remembered tall. "Yeah getting right on that." "If you do not know what it looks like say that," she said as she took a minute and shook her head. "Cooking is a skill that we all need stop gendering it so much but yes Sophie that sounds like a good idea." “It’s probally in the high cupboards” Sophie replied to Sawyer. While that was being located she gave thought to things other than carrots. So she started by cutting one large carrot into sections before working her way to the large fridge. Cooking wasn’t just a woman’s skill. There were plenty of male cooks as well but everybody could learn some of it. “Carmen, there’s bacon here. You could also try sweet potato and bacon too” she suggested bringing some bacon rashers over to her work bench. She’d cut this up into smaller pieces with kitchen scissors to make cooking quicker before they got blended. Either way the meat of choice was pork as that was available. She could even use her own flame power to quick cook the vegetables and bacon before the purée phase. The first experiments would be simple but it did look like they had the start of an idea. He nodded. "I mean we always find a way to make everything work so this, whatever we want to do today and learn and do for the holiday season does not seem like it would be too hard for us to follow up which makes me feel good about the situation over all." Sophie had no problem with making cookies. She did that from time to time and not a regularly as she would like. So once they had the blender they could start this idea. “That sounds like a good idea Sawyer” she said to him sounding cheerful and confirming that with Carmen. Another question has been asked and she replied “holiday shopping? I need presents for you, Sawyer, Nina and the gang but that’s really it. Unless we’re going to get decorations in as well”. Something practical or nice would do as together they made up a little family. “We could go out when we’re all free”. Sawyer, Carmen, Nina and herself for now and they’d need to get a move on.
