this case was unexpected - Alice

“That could be an interesting experience. Sometimes the scumbag gets a good lawyer but you need to accept the decision of the court” Alice replied. “Let me know what happens with that”.

She did wonder how their overseas case worked out after all that effort. “So what happened after that smuggling ring got busted and I shot that OSE scum? Did that go to trial yet?” she asked.

Throwing two visting officers into the well oiled machine of his squad might have been a problem but Alice and Francis had fitted right in; they’d also added new skills to the team as well. She looked at Laurent and replied “that will be a different experience and he might even be cast out of OSE. Did the other people involved get tried yet?”

She could imagine what attention she’d draw in the court room but it would be a positive thing. She’d proved she could take out the trash on another island and others might even realise what a female officer could do given the chance.

”Francis did plenty as well on the case. I’ll need to take some of the weight of him once I get back to work. The cases never stop even if I had too for a while” she added.

“I’d worked cases on my own before teaming up with Francis so I noticed the difference right away. The first case involved a dumped body and it led to finding diamonds and a raid” she replied. She did know how a good partner helped you only too well. It also helped her deal with other people as well and you knew somebody had your back.

“Is it usually just you and the marines?” she posed. Alice also worked with the security services forces as well and special forces teams had formed as well. “I miss not getting back to work but that time will come soon enough. Then deal with local criminals again”. She figured nobody would clean out the slums in her lifetime and there had been others who had also tried.

Alice gave a little smile and replied "I don't normally find corpses as part of the job. So that was a rarity but the same kind of things come in the cases I work now; ultimately goons with guns trying to shoot me. I'd love to cut the gun smuggling rings out of island life and it would make my life easier". She knew she couldn't help that so it didn't really bother her as a result.

"The desert? Where was that operation?" she posed. There wasn't deserts in this region unless you went deeper into the USA.

Alice figured that desert sounded like a Spanish name. She had heard that name before but couldn’t place it. “It sounds like things worked out in the end. We’ve certainly got a better climate here but there’ll be plenty to keep you occupied” she replied. The only sand you’d find here was on a beach like this and the hot summer would give way to storm season and cooler weather.

“Hopefully your cases are straightforward here. That’s as much as you can hope for”. She had seen some of the weirdness and he might too.

Parenthood was a learning experience. “These little darlings do tag team me quite a bit. It took a week to figure that out before it became easier to handle” she replied. Then added “you’ll the usual type of cases along with stranger things here. Also ones that are just as dangerous as that big raid you took us on”.

It was going to take longer to know what she needed to do and she’d have to do more once they were older. That was why it took both parents to share the work.

Alice didn't think that Laurent might be as likely as she was to find a weird case. Hell she'd even time travelled (or was it time skipping?) and her report was with ARI. Still they would be able to help out if he made the call. "You can do that when you need the backup. Strange takes a new meaning round here" she mused. The waves continued to lap on the shore as the tide kept coming in and she figured she'd better tell him what an island event could do.

"I had a case with the local OSE when one of their fleet helicopters crashed on a beach. We time travelled and putting things right got us back in time. It was as if we'd never left the briefing room yet it happened all the same" she added.
