Sophie heard what Jack had to say but she came from a background which recognised talent; Her mother had been young when she'd joined the Triads for a while. So it wasn't a case of age but being able to do the job that mattered more.

"If adults are so keen on giving self defence classes to adults why not include teenagers too in that thinking? And if the OSE did come for us they wouldn't care about our age. We need our skills developed once they show not having to wait until later on" she replied. She smiled a little after that and added "its not much of an apartment but it does have relaxing going for it".

Sophie had part of her urban jungle skills in place before she even came here so had that advantage but even she was learning all the time. So could Jack if he kept this up.

Looking back at Jack as they both dined the messy thin noodles weren't the ones she'd like to use but she couldn't get the thick ones anywhere. She'd keep checking out her usual sources till she found some.

"So just who do we keep bothering about this until they let us do this? Perhaps somebody in the police department or is it higher up? It's the PD that runs the adult self defence classes; I know because my aunt was looking at them".

They still could do things on their own till then and another idea came to mind. "The dance studio is where those classes take place. So we can ask in the fitness centre and see if we can do some fight training of our own. Beanbags can count as rocks too" she added with a smile as the idea took shape.

Sophie had a light bulb moment as she listened to Jack and swallowed a long section of noodles. When she had swallowed she took a drink and cheerfully said "I just might know somebody in ARI who could help. I was scouting out the modern city when I chased the boy down who had just taken his wallet and he had no idea it was gone. He was talking to a woman and distracted so no surprise there. I marched him back along with the wallet but I did get a look before I handed it over. His name is Lucas Roberts.

So what if he could make that suggestion for us to the grown ups? Then seen where that leads?".

That was one plan but she also had something to say about the other suggestion.

"There's nothing stopping us just walking in anyway as long as we show our island id at the door. There's plenty of choices but we'll also find somebody there who can advise us even if we're just there to do kiddie gym or gymnastics initially. Fighting can come later on.

So we can ask and find out what is readily available first. Then take it from there".

They had two plans now and now she'd suggested it she would have to speak to Lucas at some point. It shouldn't be hard to find him if she did the obvious thing and just asked at reception.

Jack was also concerned for her. Like she was for him; her reasoning for getting him throwing daggers which he would be so much better at wielding than she ever would. Also why she was showing him all she knew including cooking a chow mein.

"I always try and be careful but somethings you just can't predict. Anyway in couple of days after school do you want to go to the fitness centre and see what they have on? I think the pitching cage might be fun for starters and at least get you used to a bat" Sophie replied with a smile as she kept eating their after school meal.

"What's the kitchen like in your apartment? I can bring the ingredients to your place as long as you have a decent frying pan to work with" she posed. Another possible future idea.

Sophie smiled and cheerfully replied "meeting up after school sounds good to me". That applied to both ideas as he also described the kitchen and it not quite being good parenting. At least her aunt had set a time she needed to be in for to get her homework done. Not perhaps much better but there was structure.

"In that case I can teach you more cooking and others might learn something too" she added. She ran the time table in her head as the next day she'd have to collect those throwing knives. So that left the day after which was a Friday.

"How does Friday sound as our next afternoon? You can choose what will happen" she posed. A person might well make plans but time and fate might be against them.

Now plans had been laid for two days time Sophie smiled back at Jack. It really should have been her choosing but she wanted to make Jack feel more adventurous now he'd started on that path. Still it was important to know how to cook and what she'd served up was reasonably simple even if it looked complicated.

So even with knowing that life could change your plans in little and large ways at a moments notice this was still worth doing. "Yes you do Jack and its better if its fun. If we cook we can do enough for everyone. If its not going to be used right away it can be frozen and re-heated later on" she replied.

She'd figured out herself that track and field did look like the best option for her so after she got her knives she'd look into the classes tomorrow and make a head start on the idea. One activity could always lead to another.
