As they climbed to their next roof there was a lot of noise that Sophie couldn't untangle so had to slow down and become more stealthy to figure out what was going on. And it was just as well given they'd nearly stumbled into a gang resting under a basic shelter they'd added to the roof. The idea was the same as linking gazebos only more rough and ready. "Escape is usually the best route Jack" she quietly said as she pointed them out. Nobody was being particular observant which was dangerous given this lifestyle but she wasn't going to take that chance. "That's a gang. One on down time by the looks of it and they don't even know we are here. They will however when we move to the next roof". She looked back at Jack with her brow furrowing. "However don't worry. We are faster than they are and some of them are off their heads. We only really need to worry about three of them" she added in that quiet voice pointing out the most likely dangers. There wasn't many guns in the slums but throwing weapons and hand catapults were as deadly as a pistol if things came to a fight. Knowing Jack's ability the present she had in mind was a good one but for now all they had was rocks and any thing else they could pick up. She also had fire on her side and if they could distract this gang there would be enough time and space to get to the next fire escape and to the next building. "Nuts" she added hearing some shouting. She had to make a move now as it seemed somebody had spotted them after all. "We need to move together and not give them a chance to target us individually" she cautioned as the wait for the action to kick off seemed to last quite a while but was only 30 seconds. A head looked down on Sophie and he punched the man. As he was pretty stoned he couldn't have noticed much anyway except some extra pain before he fell down making a lot of noise. "Round this way" she cautioned as going that way meant they could use cover part of the way before they had to dash. Jack P. J.

Escape. He logged that in his memory and then he looked down at the gang. At the moment at least they seemed to be minding their business but he knew that could change and drop on a dime so he stayed close. "Okay," he said. Once the gange knew they were around he doubted that it would remain peaceful but he was okay with that too. He had not done too much exciting quite yet but this might get right up there. His eyes went wide when she said nuts as he followed her. "Oh crap," he said as he picked up a stick and used his ability to throw it at one of the people as it ran. He was aiming for the head but the stick hit the man in the eye instead. Sophie Chang

The stick caused a lot of pain and that would take him out of a fight right away. The two others who looked vaguely organised were trying to find these children invading their building and roof but as Sophie had taken out one already it meant they'd have less reinforcements if they did get organised in time. If they were quick enough they'd never get the chance to be involved. The area she has suggested was behind their structures so hid them most of the way. Sophie did feel nervous but it was also fun; it was also dangerous as she brought her flaming sword to life. As they kept moving she was setting the rubbish behind them on fire which would cut of that area of advance. The next roof wasn't far off and a three foot jump from the fire escape if they took that route. Then as they got a chance to scout their next move an angry looking woman towered over Sophie with an iron bar in her hand. Looking at each other Sophie showed no fear as combat went from shooting to melee. The woman yelled as the flaming sword hit home and she followed up with a kick. Normally burning did the trick but not this time. Jack did have a large guy to deal with but they'd be cornered until they defeated them or found a way out. The guy had a baseball bat but didn't move as easily as Jack could. A slow swing after an advance missed badly and he wasn't clearly as good a fighter as the other woman was. Which gave plenty of counter attack options. Jack P. J.

The action had picked up and he felt that him and Sophie might have bitten off a little more than they could chew but so far they seemed like they were getting an advantage but even Jack knew that advantages did not necessarily last. Then he found himself cornered by a large guy as he looked for Sophie. "Sophie," he said as he remained calm and the guy took a second and swung the bat at him. Jack ducked and then used another rock and threw it at the man, his power kicking in and knicking the guy right above his eye and he took a second to move his hand, as blood trickled down. "Sophie, how are you holding up?" Sophie Chang

The man who got hit by the rock staggered but wasn't out of the fight. He might be slow and clumsy but he was tough. A blind swing well away from Jack wasn't going to be troubling anybody and it would take more to defeat him. Sophie had a different story to tell as hers was a more even contest; the young oddity couldn't hang around as she'd lose if this went on much longer. Two solid blows would take her out. The woman who had howled in pain was now royally pissed off at the girl who was dodging her swings and finding her clothing getting more scorched as Sophie landed more glancing blows but not really doing much damage. Sophie found a second or two to listen to Jack and seeing the distracted brute of a man she yelled over "grab his bat and get ready to leave. I'll need help with her first". She could admit when she needed help and the clock was ticking. The others would be almost organised by now as she finally landed another good solid blow. They were cut off by the burning rubbish fire she had started for now and couldn't join in yet. "Just stay down bitch" she told the woman whom she'd finally knocked to the ground but she wasn't for giving up even with Sophie about to kick her in the head. She'd need Jack to finish this tough woman off. Jack P. J.

Jack could feel his heart beat as it picked up but he did not let it bother him too much at the moment as he had barely gotten away from his guy and seen Sophie was in trouble. Their after school activities might not be for the weak at heart but they certainly made Jack grateful that they had abilities as he looked around and found a small piece of metal on the ground. He took in a deep breath and then threw it and watched it as the speed picked up and the precision was for once accurate as he watched the metal go through the back of the woman's head just as she got up trying to avoid Sophie's attack and appear through the other side through her eye as he watched the body fall to the ground again. The horror on his face shortly after disappeared as he put himself beside Sophie. "Come on, it's the slums if the cops even come they will just think that she had a bad day." Sophie Chang

Sophie had advised him Jack to pick up the bat since it was hard to do his thing with two people in close combat but he'd done it anyway. Them woman rolled away from her and she could see she was clearly dead. If the police ever did investigate this it would go down as a gun shot or stabbing. She couldn't think about this right now but could unravel it later on. "Come on Jack; before they realise whats happened" she said leading the way down the fire escape and knowing they had to head up and round before they could head back. The gang they'd just tangled with would be out for their blood now. They also had to move fast as she did just that and taking the little turns at street level that should shake them off. Jack P. J.

Jack was a sheltered individual even to the point that his parents had given him what he wanted and now he had tussled with a gang. Life did move so fast that he was even still adjusting as they ran. He turned the corner and after checking to make sure they were safe he spoke lowly. "This is so bad, so so bad." Sophie Chang

They had to go a bit deeper into get out of this side of the slum but Sophie had a good idea of their exit point back the way they came. "We've shaken them off Jack; and it is bad even for tangling with gangs. I seen what you did earlier and you tried to do the same again. It wasn't your fault" she replied trying to reassure him. She could have finished her fight of earlier if she'd wanted to kill the woman but didn't want to. "I was trying to make her give up or knock her out but she was too stubborn to do so. I might have had to do the same" she added quietly. She looked round to figure out where they needed to go to get back to the west side and the route was starting to click into place. Jack P. J.

Jack was a bit on a high but not a good high. It was a realization as he looked at Sophie. He needed to hold it together and perhaps later he could scream and get it hopefully all out of his system. "I am okay, are you okay?" Deflect deflect. "It's done now we had to protect ourselves in the end." It was apart of this life. Sophie Chang

There was probally more PTSD type cases in this part of the island than anywhere else and any therapist would be overloaded by them alone. Other people did what Jack had just done everyday and was part of life. So she did have a suggestion for when they next did an after school adventure. One she'd let him know later on. "That's right Jack and the woman who was fighting me knew that too. I don't feel alright but I have to deal with that later on. That's why she wanted to make sure to take me down and it's gang life at its worst. I've worked out the way back for us too" she quietly said. She was holding it together but would also need to deal with this later; a task that would have to wait until they safe again. So leading a longer way round they did see more gangers but didn't get close enough to engage them or allow them to make contact with Jack and herself. She made sure of that as she didn't want anymore trouble as they gradually turned west staying on street level. Jack P. J.

Jack did not know if he would do trauma well so at the moment he just walked and mumbled to himself. He did not want to freak out right here and right now but it was a lot to take in and he knew that he could not tell his sister at all. It would have to be a secret that he kept from her for his own good which he did not know how he would do that he only knew that he would. "Sophie stop," he finally said. "I need a minute to breathe." He could keep it together but the way his mind was racing at a hundred miles an hour at the moment he just needed a few seconds. Sophie Chang

If Jack couldn't tell his sister she could barely tell her aunt. She'd just have to find a way to balance out what she'd been a part of in a positive way. Hearing Jack and knowing they were safe she did stop. She still stayed watchful as she waited on what he had to say. They weren't out of the woods yet. Jack P. J.

He was too young to realize that this was probably some version of him spiraling which was a good thing. Plus he had a hell of a memory to think on. He took in a deep breath and then he spoke. "I'm good to finish going now," he said. "Let's get to a safer area, we do not need any more trouble at the moment." Sophie Chang

Jack looked good to go again so Sophie kept leading the way back after she agreed with him. It was a different return route so she checked the landmarks as she kept the tallest tower in the north side as her compass point. They'd be back in the west side before too long and they were back mainly on roofs for most of the way. All they managed to do on this leg of the journey was disturb a woman trying to hang her bedsheets out on the washing line she'd made up here. Sophie had stopped to give her a hand anyway. From here they could see the west side clearly. Enough adventure for one day but not an end to the fun. Jack P. J.
