Even paradise could become a prison if one had enough time to take notice of the walls
welcome to Dire Tactics
Oddities are individuals born with extraordinary gifts. Because of this they are hated, feared and generally persecuted across the globe. In an attempt to give them a refuge the billionaire Theodore Ashford has created Ashford Isle. Presented as a Sanctuary for the special some believe their to be much darker motives behind his generosity.
Ashford Isle
A state of the art city powered completely by renewable energy, gorgeous modern building erected against the backdrop of a tropical paradise. It has all the luxuries modern technology can afford accompanied by the natural beauty and serenity only nature can provide. This city is open to all Oddities and their families, along with several hundred A.R.I. employees, it boast a modest population of just over 5,000 individuals consisting of a mix between both human and oddity. This wonderful utopia however is shaded in mystery both metaphorically and literally. The United Nations have dispatched several fleets of O.S.E. ships near the island, this gives the coastline a ominous view.

"They call people-meat "long-pig" for a reason." Joe didn't answer any other questions or chat much. If he got to talking, he might let something slip that would reveal his weakness... well, it would if the gang he had coerced into helping him was only half as stupid as they seemed to be. Thus, Joe relaxed in the shadows and the dark, waiting for the six-foot graves to be dug up. Hopefully, they wouldn't have been covered with concrete after burial, like most graves in the United States, and it would just take an hour or so of digging to get loot from three or four graves... Less than two feet of digging brought up bones and bags. Joe, despite his decision to try and stay quiet, couldn't help but let out a bit of disgust. "Jesus Christ, they didn't even bury 'em six feet down?" To ensure he wasn't seen as weak or as too human, he didn't want the gangsters trying to cozy up to him, Joe added a snap at Kris. "Shaddap, will ya? You want the whole town to hear you scream like a lil' girl?" As he said this, Joe reached out a hand towards the bags that had been tossed to him. They were the size of body bags, but they couldn't have been filled with bodies. The tough-girl didn't seem to have super-strength, and she'd tossed them up one after the other without much effort. A quick pull on a zipper revealed that Joe's hunch was right. One of the bags had a bit of cash, another had a few guns and bullets, and the third had some sort of amateur disguise kit and a bunch of paperwork. All three of the bags had STRIFE symbols on them. A supply cache? Joe pointed to Jenna and Kris, "You two, get in the whole with our little stoic and help her dig. Toss everything you find in that grave pile to me." After saying this, Joe expanded out from the shadows with a shape that looked like a giant mouth and hand... and he swallowed up the body bags whole, taking them into the strange void within where he kept everything he took. Jenna did not well no she did find this awkward. The fact that they were esentially being bullied by the shadows but still she remained quiet for the moment and the shadow man, shadow thing kept going on. "Relax guy, we will find what you need before the time runs out. If you want to help us then you know that you are for more than free too, doing whatever it is that you do in the end anyhow." She said as her vision glitched a second as she took a breath and closed her eyes in order to calm her body down for she did feel like she might throw up with the scent as they got deeper. "They are humans," she said to the shadowed mouth/hand combination at the moment. "Lay off of them will you? They are not like you and I, but they are not the worse either," she said as she could feel the dirt getting underneath her nails but she continued to dig, until her body fell over and into the dirt. Kris knew the way that he seen things was different but at the end of the day he wanted to make sure that if possible he could get a better life for himself and yet he somehow knew that was not always the case as he continued to dig but he still intently listened. Rhett MonroeshadowmanJenna McRaye

Rhett was finding the situation funny though the more she now thought about it them dealing with someone who could clearly outpower especially her and Kris was no laughing matter. "Let's just hope that we find what he wants soon so that we will not become shadow meat." She was still clueless on how it worked but she knew that she did not want to die today or experience some kind of shadow bind or however his ability might work. shadowmanJenna McRayeKris Lerax

Joe didn't know whether to be elated or disgusted by his own success. He was used to criminals begging, screaming, or buckling under pressure when he showed up, that came with being a living shadow that sometimes took the shape of a man. However, the sheer ease with which he had subdued a trio of what were supposedly hardened criminals on an island full of superpowered beings made him feel insane. Was it really this easy? Was there nobody in charge that was more powerful, or braver than, the trio of flunkies in front of him? If so, then Joe was a big fish in a small pond, and he had a hell of an appetite. But first, he felt the need to respond to something that Jenna had said... "My God, another one of you nutjobs. Is there somethin' in the water? What's this "us" and "them" crap that people keep pullin' around here? First the pigs, now you chuckleheads..." Joe slid out of the shadow of the tree, reaching and stretching until he seemed to be the size of a hill... a flickering hill that was half-buried in darkness. That hill-shaped torso extended an arm, and a long and wicked finger, towards Jenna. "Let's get somethin' straight. I ain't one of "us" if "us" has you in it, got it blondie? 'Cause unlike the rest of ya, I know how to pull off a job. Now get back to it. And I want all three of you, human, oddity, whatever else, to be quiet. You scream, you shout, you sing a ditty, you get shot." With that, Joe shrank back into his more "normal" form.... that of a bipedal man of average height, with a fedora and trench coat. Well, the outline of a man with a hat and a trench coat, at least. And for a few hours, he just stood there, refusing to make small talk, refusing to lift a shovel for himself, refusing to do anything other than watch and wait for more bags or boxes. The trio found a couple more odds and ends, nothing as big as that first score, but there was some more cash and some more ammo and a few more guns. By the time Jenna was keeling over, Joe figured he'd gotten everything worth getting in that mass-grave/cache drop disguised as a regular cemetery plot. That meant he had to figure out what to do with the original trio. If he let them go, they'd probably get themselves caught by the cops and spill the beans about him to save their own skins. Unless he took over their gang, but Joe didn't feel like babysitting three full-grown people, maybe more, while also working on his own heists and jobs. No, the only way forward was to dispose of all three, maybe with something mundane... Something that could be blamed on STRIFE, perhaps... Joe reached a hand into the "pocket" of his trench coat, and reached within the void that his body contained. A moment later, he pulled out a semi-auto pistol he'd pulled off of a STRIFE goon back at the mall, a few days prior. He didn't know the model or make of it, but it was black and it had a fully-loaded clip inside. It was good enough for him... Joe aimed the pistol at the trio... Well, in their direction. He didn't like to move a barrel around too much, so he just kept the thing pointed in such a way that a twitch of the wrist would let him get a bead on Kris, Jenna, or Rhett on a moment's notice. "Alright, that's enough. Shovels down, hands up. Keep them where I can see them, and keep them empty and this will be much quicker fer all of us..." Jenna McRaye , Kris Lerax , Rhett Monroe

Jenna supposed at the end of the day while she scared and while she knew that there were not only humans but oddities out there as well that could hurt you that she did not think about it too much. Most the time people simply wanted something and she did not know if she could get it to them but he, this shadow of a man seemed to have a simple enough request. Her nails were dirty beyond measure but that was fine as she kept going. However the shadow man's intentions seemed to become even more clear as he changed form once again and spoke to them. She put her shovel down and looked at him at least as best as she could which was not much since looking at the lack of him did make her head hurt. "Is this really the way you want to go about it Shadow?" she asked. Kris LeraxRhett Monroeshadowman

He did not know if this was punishment or if he took a second and just needed to see if it was possible to apologize. He took a second and did as he was asked because the last thing that he wanted to do was anger the man, or the lack of a man rather. "Great," he said as he took a second and waited to see what was expected of them next. Rhett MonroeshadowmanJenna McRaye

She was going with the word irritated for what she thought that he this shadow thing might feel but she was still going to be careful as she looked at the shade of it since that was the best way that she could find to describe it in the end. "Did we do something wrong?" she asked. It was impossible to read his expressions so she knew that she had to ask questions in order to get an understanding of what she wanted. shadowmanJenna McRayeKris Lerax
