Alice had the more straightforward question to ask but she'd have the harder time getting answers; she also didn't want to expose other oddities while she she was looking. Lynn wouldn't have the same problem; she might have too much information to shift through given the lore was going all the back to native American times and then the settlers added their layers on top of that. Alice was also waiting on her coffee to brew and that would arrive before the food. She lived on caffeine and looking back at Lynn she had a question of sorts. "So what could our ancestors been doing in the 1920's I wonder? Could some have even been involved in the Great War? Perhaps gangsters?" Alice has this mental picture of people who might well have looked similar to them and could see it clearly. Concentrating brought it even more into focus. Her past self didn't have wings but was dressed for the times and had a tommy gun. Lynn was the same. People doing what they had to do to live a life. Which was no different from now. "The key, Alice, is finding is that one little thread," Lynn said as the waitress brought their drinks to them, "spotting that one little item and then seeing where it goes. Doesn't have to be anything grand or mysterious; I remember this one time growing up a story my foster dad used to tell me. One of his friends was a Missouri state trooper and he'd pulled someone over just outside town on Route 22. "Trooper pulls up behind this character and he's going through the whole 'license and registration' thing with him; just as he's about to walk back to his car he catches, out of the corner of his eye, the faint gleam of metal. He stops and tells the guy to get out of the car when all of a sudden the guy revs up his car and tries to run him over. Trooper puts the guy down and they late find about a quarter-mil in cocaine in the car but that's not the point of the story. "The point was that sunlight had hit, at that moment, a bit of the .45 the guy had under his leg and the trooper didn't even know it was there until that exact moment. Alice could relate to what the state trooper had to do. If the isle became a nation in time she'd be a police officer; right now she was doing that job but didn't have the title yet. Thanking the waitress she listened intently to Lynn as she poured her first cup of life giving coffee. Nodding in the right places as the story continued she eventually had something to say. "So we need the initial thread" she sumarised. "Recorded oddity activity could be that; though it wouldn't have been recorded as back in the day. You know I could be the one shooting a drug mule some day. We're starting to get the same problems as Missouri along with Florida you know". Alice shrugged a pair of slender shoulders and top wings hearing this the first sentence. The second sentence she heard as she moved her plate closer after thanking the waitress was thoughts she'd kind of expressed before but in a different way. Being a nation long term wouldn't be easy but it was the best chance for oddities to make a positive mark on the world. "When it happens I'll pull the trigger like any other police officer. I'm just not called that yet but I'm doing the same job as my counterpart in the Jacksonville PD" she mused. Then added "I hope I'll still be around on the island when that happens. Might even be the chief of police in twenty years by then". That's if she was still in the service. The future was totally unknown and might even include children. Lynn Carpenter |

If they were both still there when nationhood happened they'd be able to help each other out for years to come. Perhaps Alice would still have a police career while Lynn was making albums and being a worldwide sensation. "Its wise advice. I was always pushed to learn and still will do; there's always something new to learn and do" she added. Right now the isle still had its problems but it felt as if there was still a lot to explore and room to move around in. Alice just had to put her coffee cup down once she heard what Lynn had to say. Here they were on an island where weird stuff happened and was rumoured to happen. OSE ships surrounded said isle and the peace was fragile. Yet Alice couldn't help what she was about to do. "Litter pickers will be in order" she replied before laughing loudly. After getting this out of her system it was time to get back to breakfast before the real business of the day got going. "We've still got to get to the beach after this" she said before starting on her own plate. She didn't want her breakfast to get cold. "So what supplies do you think we'll need?" Alice posed. So after breakfast it was back to the jeep. By now the night was starting to give way to the dawn of a new day. It still felt a little chilly but it would soon warm up again. So with the local radio playing and the jeep flying along the beach was only twenty minutes away. Sun and water fun was promised and half way to the beach the sun fully rose.
