out with my dog - TAG Mallory

David found himself thinking that things had worked out pretty well between them. He  was certainly satisfied and felt closer to Mallory now they'd gone that extra set of steps but it still wasn't a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship. That suited him fine as friends plus worked better. They'd give each other good things for as long as they both stayed without their own partners. After that things would change but they still could be friends. A more modern way of looking at things and it gave them both freedom. This way they could do more. 

Little David still seemed to have ideas as he was cuddled into Mallory and bigger David was still caressing her. "I think you're right. I only sense a beginning right now". He chuckled slightly then added with a kiss "we still have the rest of the night if you want to explore further what friends plus means". He wasn't sure if Mallory thought that way but they'd have time to teach each other.

So Mallory had her plan and he would respect it. He couldn't see why not for starters and it was only fair that Mallory got her say about what was happening. "That sounds like a plan to me. Some fries and a burger sound good" he replied and let Mallory get showered first. While he waited his turn he had a chance to think about things. He came to the conclusion that it would be best to do things her way and he truely respected her.

So by the time he got his turn and got dressed he had to disturb Sparky otherwise he'd be up all night. The little dog then went looking for Mallory.

David was fine with how long Mallory took. So issues there. A kind of breakfast was promised and he'd see what was served up later on. He was ready now after his shower and getting dressed.

So he followed Sparky to the kitchen and found Mallory fussing over him. "Do you want a hand with breakfast? I promise I'm not a bad cook" he offered cheerfully and petted his dog. "He generally eats some of what I do. He's also good with vegetables and potatoes". Anyway the dog could wait till later if there was nothing suitable right now.

David wasn't a fussy eater in any case. So no offence was caused. Croissants, eggs and bacon looked good to him and once he got the food he cut up some of the rashers and offered a few to Sparky. The dog looked happy and a few little pieces was all he'd get for now. Too much processed meat was bad for him.

"If he's going to be a regular visitor I'll leave you a bag of his dry food" David suggested as he started to cut open a croissant. "Next time I'm over I'll cook something for you. I can cut up some potatoes and carrots and cook them in the microwave for him once I'm done. That's a quick and easy food to prepare. Then mash it up". By now Sparky was round Mallory. He was probally thinking of Mallory as the beta female right now.

So after his croissant David was as good as his word. The eggs could wait until he'd sorted his dog out; and the process was as simple as he described. All he needed was a kitchen knife, a chopping board, a little hot water and a microwave proof jug. Once things were cut small he nuked it checking every couple of minutes to see if the potatoes and carrots were cooked. Things he'd done in the UK but there he tended to add in turnips and left over meat cut small. Once it was cooked and mashed he smiled to Mallory. "That's what he likes so once its cooled he can have it".

Knowing what his master was up to Sparky got excited and looked interested. What was left could be frozen and be kept for the next time.

Mallory Nottingham

He'd leave the dog food the next time he was here. In the meantime he'd make another batch up while he'd access to Mallory's kitchen.

"Dogs tend to get on better when they have company. I've been cooking since I was a boy as there was only the two of us. My mother ran the post office and still does. So I had to learn to help her and grandma. It certainly helped as a student and afterwards" David replied serving out a little of the potato & carrots for his dog on a saucer.

Sparky made short work of it and looked for more. "I've seen cookery shows and a lot of that isn't practical. You're best to keep things simple. And thank you for the use of the kitchen. I can't cook properly till I get my own place".

The wheels were turning on his own place and hopefully it might not take much longer. Then he could really feel at home on the isle.

Mallory Nottingham

"Why not Mallory?" David replied as he gave more food to Sparky who in turn looked round the both of them. "I'll help you find a pet that completes you just the way Sparky does with me. Let me know what time works for you".

That was just the way things were with his dog.

"I suppose its something I'm used to by now" he mused. "The hotel is fine but it lacks something. In my old flat I was able to just that and relax after work. It was by a canal in an old industrial area with all the shops I needed and a pub nearby". David remembered this well and hoped he'd get as lucky here.

David mused over the question as Mallory asked about his old life. He felt free here without having to pretend to be a normal human which was what he had to do in the past. Even he could see that see civil rights were being eroded back home but few seemed to notice or voice opposition to it.

The work was also better here. So he replied "I miss very little from my old life. Living a lie is not living at all. Things are much better here and so it my work. I can do so much more now. Perhaps help change the world". He was seeing research in fields that weren't even being talked about in the UK and he knew what was being worked on in ARI could change the world for humans and oddities. If they got a fair chance to do that.
