David was finding out a little but more about Mallory; was feeling a little anti-social just part of her or the path of being an artist? "You could go to an animal shelter and see what animals spark your interest" he suggested. Being around them would be the best way to see what would work as the best choice. "Fish can die on anybody. They depend on exact details like water temperature, how clean the water is and you don't over feed them. Just taking them out of their natural habitat might be enough to kill them but its not one persons fault they die" he consoled. Then came the offer. "I would like to help on this. I can probally handle the number heavy nature of it and the film would give us more information. Do you want my mobile number so we can stay in touch?" "I do believe that adopting an animal from a shelter helps so many to have a good chance at a life so that is probably the path that I will take. I might honestly adopt multiple ones and yeah fish while beautiful can be some of the most random things as far as pets go to make sure live." It was a bit sad but she knew that a part of being a good owner was also telling yourself that you had did the best while you had the pet. David borrowed Mallory's phone with a smile and added his name and number. He could save her number when she phoned him back. Without this simple request doing anything would be quite difficult. "Multiples, why not go all out?" he chuckled back as he handed Mallory back her phone. Even having a pet helped with being alone and he knew all about that. He was an exile in a modern day hermit kingdom. Just listening to the BBC world service told him he could never go back. With the sitting government wanting even more strict anti-oddity laws and King Charles speaking his mind as he'd always done in asking for less he actually feared for the Kings life and even civil war. She nodded. "Multiples sound good, but only on one deal, if it becomes too much for me you have to help me." Davis smiled back hearing all this. He drank, more of his tea which was thankfully cooling. They would need a paper cup with a lid so he could take it with him. Sparky seemed to like his drink and like the little attention seeker he was was by Mallory's feet looking up at her. "I'll give you a hand if it gets to multiples. And something cool? If we can bring our teas with us why not" he cheerfully replied. If she was thinking multiple pets she'd certainly need a hand. It wouldn't take him long to get his coat back on and leave. Now Mallory had him intrigued and just like handling chemicals before pouring them into a test tube he was careful with both teas. A well practised move for him and something he'd be doing for a long time yet. He capped of both cups with lids and they could leave. He wasn't sure what her idea was but it would be fun finding out. So now the cups were safe he got his winter coat and hat back on. Sparky looked up at the both of them as he'd been feeling settled but he had no choice in the matter. His walk would continue. Sparky usually went with David and this time wouldn't be any different. Mallory asked a question once they were outside in the cold. He knew what his answer would be as well. "I would certainly be interested and Sparky would too" he curiously replied asking "so what did you have in mind?" The mystery still kind of remained but he was willing to find out; it was Mallory who had the answers and this man who usually had found love being elusive felt himself being drawn to her. She turned the corner once again at the end of a right and pointed to a wall. "That wall right there is absolutely where I want to do a painting. I figured I could show you the spot and once I am done or have at least started it maybe one day you can come by, as far as if we hang out again? I don't know maybe a movie? The journey was starting with a wall Mallory pointed out. It was big enough for a piece of public art and he couldn't why she couldn't do it. She wanted to hang out again and David felt comfortable enough round her to like that idea. He never learned to skate but he do a movie. Or even a night out watching music or sport. He did try and stretch himself and did have a suggestion for her. He wasn't totally unused to that environment or even concerts. "I think that would be a great spot for some public art and I would like to hang out again. A movie would work but can I suggest an evening out in a pub or club? Or a concert? I want to be fair to you as well" he replied. This wasn't the usual way he met women but Mallory was fun to be around and mysterious. He wanted to know more. Mallory Nottingham |

Just maybe things were leading to a date? So as they both seemed to think about it David got to appreciate the spot she'd picked out for art better. As well as Mallory herself. Not many people would have said that about David in the UK as he was more focused on his job prior to his exile. It also didn't help that he hadn't felt much empathy for people round him but that was the dystopian United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland for you. Even normal humans found it hard. Keeping his head down and working seemed like the best option for an oddity. Here was very different and it felt like a weight was lifted from his shoulders. Rocking out, too many beers and other things happening.. quite possible. He'd done that before and regretted it briefly. He wouldn't want to regret it with Mallory if he could help it. "So be careful with the weird things? I'll bear that in mind" he chuckled back before adding "I was probably the cause of big weird dog sightings where I grew up. In our legends they'd be called Grimm's. Great big black dogs that were supposed to be unlucky if you met one. Not that I got that close to people to give them a good look". He'd been able to explore part of his ability not not as much as he would have liked or been able to normally. "I would like to do just that and if we regret it the next day I hope it won't be for long. I'd still like to give you good things" he added smiling a little. "Well my own general rule is to be careful around the island period but never forget why one is here while doing so. I dive too deep into my art if I sense myself getting a little too paranoid or if I feel like the rumors of the island are too much for me because I always want to be able to live my life and say I did what I wanted and feel everyone else should have that right as well." Mallory did seem incredibly free spirited to David. While he would look for right or wrong answers she seemed able to deal with whatever happened without regret. So if things went wrong as he was worried about things might still work out. He looked back at her and replied "I certainly do feel at home here. Way more than I did when living in the UK". He shook his head knowing how dystopian his home country was by now. A situation that has gradually crept up on people ever since oddities were first revealed to the world. Then add in islamic extremism and that just ramped up the paranoia level. "It sounds like you deep dive into art the way I used to do with science. At least when I could bury myself in work I could forget my troubles. It's not a problem living here and it looks like there is a lot to learn about" he added with a smile and then had something else to say. "We don't need a complex date Mallory. How about I get some beers and your alcohol of choice. Then we go to my place or yours for the rest of the evening. Then see what happens?"
