Derek did seem to have another plan in mind so she asked “are you talking about the hotel or the island in general?” She did have a possible idea as she continued “the university should have that information but when you have volcanos you generally have basalt rocks for starters”. "I could also put in a request to ARI for geology reports of the island as well as checking with the university" Xanthe suggested hearing what Derek had to say. "I agree we should deal with one thing at a time and you couldn't cover all of the island in only one documentary. How about starting with the island of ashes? “I’ll find out if you need special gear or not. We can’t really go till you get all your equipment so let me make some calls and get back to you” Xanthe replied. They worked as a team in the past and would now. She’d also need to get the basic information from ARI that would start this story off. Derek had spent a good bit of his time looking around and more than that trying to get his camera here as soon as possible. He was a little lost but eventually found his way to the cafe. "Is the food good here?" he asked. "I am assuming so but one can never tell." Xanthe Wingard |

“The menu looks good. I just got a coffee though” Xanthe replied. Then showed Derek these geological and topology maps. These were pre Ashford maps. The date printed on them along with some Spanish sounding names of landmarks confirmed that. So these colour photocopies could help Derek out. “Here is the old town, the fishing village to the east of that and also Browns bay on the south of the island. The US base is near them” she said pointing these out but it was only recently that new villages were being built and other locations were being developed. “There’s the volcano. He ordered a bagel and a small coffee as he looked over the maps. This place had been a place before it became what they knew now which was fine because that was everything. "It looks so different, but it does seem like the volcano always existed even in some smaller form." He paused at the word active but it was a risk in the job. Building a city right next to an older settlement wasn't unknown. The new city had actually grown from a new town over time and now fully absorbed the old town it used to be neighbours to. However seeing the way things used to be was always informative. "So we start with the volcano. I did phone them up and all you'll need is good boots to explore it; nothing more specialised than that" Xanthe replied. The fact it was active didn't bother her though it was also a first for her. Xanthe considered the possible dangers. Then replied “if the volcano is likely to erupt they won’t let us near it so we should be fine. Even it it’s smoking it’ll be fine”. So it would be a trip for another day but they would be prepared. When it did happen she’d a map of the area and it was a nice day on the island of Ashes. Derek Tenpenny(New thread time?) |
